Course Equivalency Course equivalency for Advanced Placement exams, for purposes other than meeting General Education and graduation competency requirements for the Associates Degree, shall be determined by the college, using policies developed in consultation with the college s Academic Senate, in accordance with the provisions of LACCD Board Rules, Chapter XVIII, Article I. Course equivalency does not award unit credit. For unit credit policy, see item 3 below. 2. Use of Advanced Placement exams for meeting General Education Requirements and graduation competency requirements for the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science Degrees Advanced Placement (AP) Exams shall be used toward meeting General Education requirements and Graduation Competency for the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science Degrees, as defined in Board Rule Chapter VI, Article II. Students must receive a passing score (3, 4, or 5) on an AP exam to receive the credit indicated in Appendix A. 3. Advanced Placement Unit Credit For the purpose of granting unit credit towards meeting General Education and graduation competency requirements, the LACCD shall follow the guidelines for Advanced Placement credit set by the American Council on Education: In general, the recommended minimum number of semester hours from ACE corresponds to the status of the corresponding high school AP course: 3 semester hours are recommended in the case of a half-year course 6 semester hours for most full-year courses 8 semester hours for some of the mathematics, sciences, and foreign languages Page 1 of 6
4. CSU GE Breadth and IGETC AP E-reg v 1.0 The placement of courses in the California State University General Education Breadth (CSU GE Breadth) and the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Plans is determined by the University of California and California State University systems respectively; therefore it is not necessary for the college to grant course equivalency for this to occur.
