Chaltikyan Telemedicine & ehealth in the World In the US 90% of hospitals have begun developing or implementing telemedicine, and ½ have active telemedicine programs [NEJM, 2015]; Between 50% and 70% of all office or emergency visits can be handled via telemedicine [AATM, 2010; First Stop Health analysis, 2014]; Revenue for telemedicine devices and services worldwide is expected to increase 10-fold in 5 years: from $440 in 2013, to $4.5 bln in 2018; The number of patients using telemedicine services will have increased 20- fold in the same period [IHS Technology]; Special focus on ehealth by WHO, ITU, European Commission; Big Business : special emphasis on Digital Health (Siemens, Agfa, Phillips, Intel, Microsoft, Samsung, IBM, Google, Apple, and others).

Armenian Association of Telemedicine, G. Chaltikyan Advances, Challenges, Prospects Telemedicine and ehealth have shown feasibility and efficiency however, it is still a challenge to move from pilot projects to sustainable programs; More efforts needed to educate both professionals and general public in efficacy of telemedicine and ehealth; More research is needed to demonstrate that telemedicine and ehealth improve patient outcomes, to show how, when, and where they work best; International collaboration is needed to ensure identification of the proper ways to implement ehealth globally and effective use of resources; Standardization, interoperability, security and privacy, liability, reimbursement issues saw tremendous progress, but still present major challenge; Integration of telemedicine and ehealth services into the mainstream healthcare seems to be a not-so-far perspective.

New Joint Master s Program in Biomedical Engineering: Tempus IV Project BME-ENA in Armenia
Background Biomedical Engineering is one of the fastest growing specialties at the interface between life sciences / medicine on the one hand, and technical sciences / engineering on the other; Biomedical Engineering is predicted to grow due to increasing penetration of technical processes into medical practice, education and research; in many countries it is currently considered one of the most attractive specialties; Armenia s healthcare is in growth and development phase, and demand for Biomedical Engineers is predicted to grow over the next decades; BME education in Armenia requires significant modernization / reformation; In the EU significant advances in the field of Biomedical Engineering Education have been achieved, in part due to cooperative efforts under Tempus project CRH-BME.

Work Packages WP 3: Capacity building for Staff and preparation of Materials: Staff selection and training; Selection and Preparation of Educational and Teaching materials; Training seminars. WP 4: Implementation of the 4 BME MSc study Programs (Sep 2015): Implementation of the BME program in Armenia; Implementation of the BME program in Georgia; Implementation of the BME program in Moldova; Implementation of the BME program in Ukraine.
Work Packages WP 5: Dissemination and Sustainability: Design, development and regular updating of the web portals; Dissemination and Promotion of project results; Implementation of BME Programs Sustainability plans. WP 6: Project Quality Assurance: Establishment of the Projects QA Plan; Preparation of the projects internal guidelines for reporting and reviewing procedures; Implementation of the projects QA system.
