Columbus State Community College Master Plan A Flexible Framework.
The Master Planning Process Initiated fall 2011 to coincide with major construction and planning projects adjacent to the Columbus Campus, including the 670/71 re-design. Highly inclusive process at both the Columbus and Delaware Campuses. Data-gathering and options-review phases More than 100 sessions involving more than 500 individuals Guided by a college steering committee of faculty and staff and NBBJ, LLC.
Assumptions We are committed to two campuses, a network of partnershipdriven regional learning centers, and collaborative opportunities to provide programmatic access throughout Central Ohio. We have sufficient land holdings to fulfill the master plan. The plan is not based on a target number of students. An overall cost estimate for full implementation has not been developed. Each project will be scaled with consideration of enrollment estimates and other conditions. Project phasing will be determined by academic need, resource availability, partnerships, regional priorities, and other factors.
Assumptions Funding for projects associated with this plan is not secured. The master plan will guide our six-year state capital plan and other planning priorities. Individual projects within this master plan will be recommended to the Board for approval as decisions separate and distinct from the approval of this master plan. The diagrams associated with the plan represent a possible framework and a potential manifestation of our principles. Specific projects associated with this plan may reflect a different scope based on conditions at the time.
Enhance the Learning Environment Student success principles and academic program needs will guide decisions. Other priorities include: Formal and informal spaces for student learning Visibility of academic programs Availability of modern classrooms and other teaching and learning spaces (tutoring, supplemental instruction, etc.)
Enrich Student Life Campuses should evoke a strong sense of place for all students. Projects will focus on convenient and intuitive navigation of student services and other processes. Purpose-built spaces for co-curricular activities, food service, recreation, housing, and other services will enhance student success. Space design will reflect the diverse needs of our students.
Develop Strategic Partnerships Deep, active, and mutually beneficial partnerships are essential. We will seek like-minded partners to fulfill student success and workforce outcomes, share resources, advance regional priorities, and maximize impact. Governmental agencies School districts, colleges, and universities Libraries Corporations and other employers Other partners The implementation timeline of this plan will be dependent on partnerships. Partnership opportunities may alter scope and sequencing of projects.
Use Resources Responsibly Environmental stewardship will guide decisions. Spaces will be pedestrian and bike friendly. Structured parking is preferred to maximize green space. New construction and renovations will be completed in an environmentally and financially sustainable manner.
Design for the Future Emerging technologies will impact classrooms and other learning spaces, common spaces, and parking. We will make efficient use of existing facilities and capital investments before undertaking building expansion. Spaces will be designed as flexibly as possible to anticipate future needs.
Preserve Unique Character Design principles will be applied consistent with the unique character of our two campuses. We will be responsible neighbors, and recognize the impact we can have on the communities we serve.
