Hong Kong Association of University Women HKAUW Postgraduate Scholarships (2014-2015) Application Details Aim The Postgraduate Scholarships aim at recognising and encouraging female postgraduates who conduct high quality original research that are of significant value to our society and to the body of knowledge. Successful candidates should also demonstrate leadership in team work, achievements in their chosen disciplines through research and practice, and involvement in community service. Award Each HKAUW Postgraduate Scholarship recipient will receive a scholarship certificate and an award of HK$20,000. Eligibility criteria: The applicant a. must be a Full Member of HKAUW b. must be currently registered as a full-time female student (including both research and taught-based postgraduate programmes) in a local postgraduate degree-granting tertiary institution (designation determined by HKAUW) c. has outstanding academic achievements, personal aspirations and qualities d. demonstrates leadership and involvement in community service, has contributions in her chosen disciplines, including a global outlook and the promotion of womanhood e. has recommendations from her supervisor, endorsed by the head of department or faculty/school in which she is currently registered f. has recommendations from the community/voluntary service organization she is involved in g. is required to serve the community for at least half a year AFTER she receives the scholarship which may include serving as a member of HKAUW Executive Committee / Sub-Committee and/or participating in HKAUW community service projects Page 1 of 3
Application procedure: a. Complete the HKAUW Membership Application Form online at www.hkauw.org to become a Full Member of HKAUW b. Directly deposit the Membership fee to the HKAUW at Bank of East Asia Account: 015-176-68-00002-2 via bank counter, and upload the online Membership Application form together with a copy of the transaction receipt which contains the payment reference number. c. Retain a copy of the transaction receipt or the bank s acknowledgement statement as proof of fee payment d. Applicants are required to submit their Postgraduate Scholarship Applications through the Student Affairs Office of their respective institutions. HKAUW will NOT accept any submission of application by individuals or through e-mail. e. The completed HKAUW Postgraduate Scholarship application form including only relevant information together with all required supporting documents, and two recommendation letters (one from her current academic supervisor and one from the community/voluntary service organization she is involved in), and the original transaction receipt or the bank s acknowledgement statement, must be received by HKAUW by 5:00 p.m. on 7 th October 2014 via the Student Affairs Office of her institution. HKAUW WILL NOT CONSIDER ANY LATE APPLICATION. f. Short-listed candidates for interviews will be directly notified by HKAUW before end of October 2014. b. They are required to attend an interview on 22 th November 2014. (IV) Announcement of Results: a. Scholarship recipients will be directly notified by HKAUW. b. The Scholarship Convenor will also notify respectively the nominating institutions of their successful candidates. c. Applicants who are not notified by mid-december 2014 should consider their applications unsuccessful. HKAUW does NOT provide critiques for unsuccessful applications. (V) Presentation of Awards: a. Certificates and cheques will be presented to the scholarship recipients at the Scholarship Presentation Ceremony scheduled for 13th December 2014. b. Postgraduate Scholarship recipients, if invited, are required to make a short presentation of their research topic at HKAUW s 2014 Scholarship Presentation Ceremony cum Christmas Dinner on 13 th December 2014.
