BACKGROUND The HERMES National Summer School is an educational project organized by SIMeR and established with the goal to develop standards for medical specialty training. The project is focused on a course in Adult Respiratory Medicine representing a valuable benchmarking tool for respiratory physicians. The HERMES National Summer School is based on a series of lessons on the different guidelines, interactive case management, meet the professor group discussion, test simulationsand a final knowledge-basedexamination with multiple-choice questions in English. The course represents an assessment of learning and addresses the need for respiratory physicians to keepa breath of new developments in their field and continually update their knowledge.
