Maternity System Supplier New Entrants Pack Step 1: Initial Contact Maternity System Suppliers will notify the NHS Connecting for Health of their intention to introduce a new/updated system to one or more Trusts (If the supplier contacts BT first then BT will inform NHS CFH). NHS CFH will: - a) Confirm the procedure for joining the NN4B Service as stated in the Maternity System Specification v5.0 document. b) Issue all specifications and documentation relating to the new installations, ie o NN4B Maternity Conformance Test Administrator Guide v1.5 o NN4B Maternity Site Administrator Guide v1.3 This documentation can also be found on: http://nww.cfh,nhs.uk/demographics/births/nn4b/ c) Inform BT (via the BT Help desk), who will provide the system supplier with technical help and support relating to the Central Issue System (CIS). BT will also issue SSL Toolkit specifications and documented guidelines. Step 2: Register on Numbers for Babies Test and Training System NHS CFH will issue a pre-conformance test pack which includes details of the URL for the Test and Training Central Issue System. The Maternity System Supplier must first download the Launcher from the URL. They then register on the Test and Training system as type System Supplier, in order to undertake pre-conformance and conformance testing. NHS CFH will validate and approve (or reject) the registration. NHS CFH will log a case with the BT Helpdesk requesting that the supplier be registered as a supported site. BT will issue the supplier with confirmation of support details, including the supplier site code. Datafile: NN4B New Entrants Mat Sys.doc Page 7 of 10
Step 3: Downloading Certificates In order to obtain authorised access to the CIS each Maternity Site will need to download two types of authorisation certificates, the Certificate Authority Certificate and the Client Certificate. The CA Certificate is valid from the date of issue until 5 th November 2009 however the Client Certificate is only valid for one year and will require annual renewal. Further details of this can be found in the Implementation Guidelines on the NN4B web site. Step 4: Download SSL Toolkit The Maternity System Supplier will download the appropriate version of the SSL Toolkit, along with relevant documentation, from the NN4B Test and Training website. (Alternatively the Maternity System supplier may develop their own interface). The Supplier will then either integrate the SSL toolkit into the Maternity System, or use their own interface. Step 5: Pre-conformance Test The Maternity System Supplier will then carry out pre-conformance tests against the NN4B conformance test service, and submit results to NHS CFH. NHS CFH will check the pre-conformance test pack results, and on successful completion will arrange for full conformance testing to be undertaken (by NHS CFH). Step 6: Conformance Test The Maternity System Supplier will schedule a date/time with NHS CFH for conformance testing. NHS CFH will undertake an on-site conformance test. Step 7: Pilot Upon successful completion of the conformance test the Maternity System Supplier will agree details with NHS CFH and select a Trust to carry out a Maternity System Pilot. Documentation on Piloting Guidelines can be found on the NN4B web site. The System Supplier/Trust will register the pilot Trust as type Maternity via the NN4B Test and Training website and run the pilot. Datafile: NN4B New Entrants Mat Sys.doc Page 8 of 10
Step 8: Roll-out The successful completion of piloting will be authorised by a sign-off by the Maternity System Supplier, pilot (Trust) site, and NHS CFH. Each new Maternity Unit/System user must then be registered on the live CIS, and the registrations will be authorised by NHS CFH. Certificates of Authority must also be downloaded/installed by each user as detailed in Step 3 above. Maternity Units should contact their local Child Health Units and inform them of the change over, and any associated changes to the flow/format of birth notifications. The Maternity System Supplier will then manage the system/upgrade roll out to all Maternity Unit sites. Datafile: NN4B New Entrants Mat Sys.doc Page 9 of 10
