TESOL / Bilingual Education Admissions Policy and Application Packet 2014 Bienvenidos! Thank you for considering the AVANCE Bilingual / TESOL program as a major or endorsement area. We are excited to have you with us on this journey. To sign up for TESOL / Bilingual Education classes we recommend reading and following the steps below carefully. Step 1: Advisement Call, come in, or email to schedule an appointment to obtain advisement by a College of Education Advisor, 505-747-2251, Teacher Education Center (Room 210), sarah.obrien@nnmc.edu Step 2: Admission Obtain or retain current admission status with Northern New Mexico College. Students can obtain admission through Northern New Mexico College of Admissions. Students may apply or reapply online at the www.nnmc.edu or obtain a hardcopy application from the Admissions Office. All official college transcripts must be provided to the Office of Admissions. Step 3: AVANCE Program Application Packet Together with an AVANCE advisor, complete and submit an AVANCE Application Packet with current information. You should schedule an appointment with an AVANCE advisor to complete this step by calling 505 747 2251 or by emailing sarah.obrien@nnmc.edu. The AVANCE Application Packet includes information on professional educational requirements, course scope and sequence, necessary documentation and departmental commitments. N.B. If you are an inservice teacher and are applying for the TESOL / Bilingual endorsement you will need to bring a copy of your current teaching license with you when completing the AVANCE Application Packet. If you have completed La Prueba Exam and/ or CKA Examination please bring a copy of the results. Step 4: Registration Register for TESOL/ Bilingual course or courses the semester of admission and acceptance into the program. Do this by logging on to MyNNMC. If you need help, speak with a student Ambassador in the Advisement Center or call 747.5499 Step 5: Scope and Sequence of Courses Follow the program scope and sequence in order to complete the program within a one - two year time frame.

Take 6 credit hours per (3) semesters and (2) summer sessions in the approved TESOL or Bilingual Education Program. 2. Commit to the program over the above time period. 3. (Relevant only to Bilingual Education Majors/ Endorsements) Provide evidence of taking & passing New Mexico Spanish Language Proficiency Exam (Prueba de Español), as required by New Mexico Public Education Department, before, during, or after enrollment in the course. 4.
