FIVE STEPS TO A SMOOTH MOVE TRANSFERRING TO CWRU 1. CYA: COVER YOUR ADMISSION- REQUIREMENTS, THAT IS We re selective. We re looking for students, including transfers, who reap the greatest benefits from our challenging academic environment and diverse student life opportunities. More than 90 percent of our freshman class ranked the top 20 percent of their high school graduating class. We strongly recommend that you carry a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 in all your previous college work especially in your intended field of study. We look for A s and B s in challenging academic courses, including English Composition, mathematics, liberal arts, and sciences. If your GPA is below a 3.0, your application may still be considered, depending on your individual circumstances. 2. GET CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE By now, you ve probably come to realize, school is generally fair. If you worked hard in a course, chances are, you made the grade. So, if you ve put in the effort at an accredited college, you ll have credit transfer. But you ll still want to earn your CWRU degree at CWRU. Once you ve been admitted to CWRU and we ve received your final college transcript and course descriptions, the Office of Undergraduate Studies will evaluate your transfer credits. We expect you to take your final two academic years, 60 semester hours, at CWRU. (One quarter-hour is equivalent to two-thirds of a semester hour.) We will award credit for courses taken elsewhere if they are: - Equivalent to courses offered by CWRU. - Completed with a grade of a C or better - From an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or technical institute 3. BANK ON YOUR FAIR SHARE If you think there s no point in applying for financial aid as a transfer student, you should think again. CWRU is committed to making the University affordable to academically qualified students. Each year we award $46-47 million in financial aid to undergraduates and that includes transfer students. Merit scholarships are not available to transfer students; to apply for need-based financial aid, submit these materials as early as possible. - A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the College Scholarship Service Financial Aid Profile (CSS Profile), available at high schools, colleges, and universities. Submit both forms by May 15 for fall admission or by September 30 for spring admission. (Financial aid is not available for the summer session and is limited for spring enrollment.) - Signed copies of your parents and your most recent federal income tax returns and attached schedules. Send these directly to CWRU s Office of Financial Aid. - A CWRU Application for Financial Assistance, available through CWRU s Office of Financial Aid, and a Financial Aid Transcript from each college you have attended even if you did not receive aid there. 4. SETTLE INTO A SURE THING Your parents have probably told you nothing in life is guaranteed. Now you can tell them they re wrong, at least this one time. CWRU s campus housing is. Residence hall rooms are available for all undergrads, including you. You also get your choice of living arrangements. In the south village, you can settle into a six-room suite with a common living area and bath. In the north village, you can share a double room there are also a few single rooms in the north village. All residential villages are coeducational except for one women s hall in the north village. To reserve your new home away from home, complete a housing application and return it with your other enrollment confirmation materials to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. 5. SEE FOR YOURSELF The best way to ensure a smooth move to CWRU is to visit to make sure it s the place for you to continue your education. The Office of Undergraduate Admission offers tours, group information sessions, and interviews with admission counselors and can arrange for you to sit in on classes, visit laboratories, and meet students and faculty. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. Group information sessions and tours are also available on selected Saturday s from September through June. The office is closed on Sundays, holidays, and when special events are scheduled on campus. To take full advantage of your visit to CWRU, please schedule and appointment in advance.
