Frequently Asked Questions PWDES E-Review Service What is the electronic review (E-Review) service? Public Works Development Engineering Services (PWDES) will implement electronic review (e-review) of development projects. PWDES will review engineering studies and plans in electronic file formats (may expand in future). The expected results of this new process will be a reduction in time and money required to gain approval of and permits for development projects. The participating customers will reduce printing and courier costs by submitting electronically directly from the customer s office computer. This service will be available via the Internet and access to the City and County of Denver FTP site. What is FTP? FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. A protocol which allows a user on one computer to transfer files to and from another computer over a network or the Internet. Why should I utilize this service? 1. Time: No time printing, binding, delivering or picking up submittals. 2. Money: No ink, paper, courier costs, or parking costs. 3. Accuracy: The system will have a log report which will reduce or possibly eliminate the occurrence of lost submittals. 4. Convenience: Do it all from your desk! 5. Communication: All internal/external stakeholders can be informed when you submit and when PWDES completes its review. This can be done simultaneously, helping to keep everyone on the same page. 6. Security: You will have a secure account. Your files will be securely uploaded and will only be accessible to you and City and County of Denver staff. 7. Options: This new service will enhance PWDES s ability to perform development review and will be the preferred choice. However, as it is independent of email and paper submittals currently utilized, there is more than one way to submit. These alternatives will be available if any technical problems are encountered with the new service. How does it work? 1. An account will be set up that will allow you to access our site where you can upload files and download redlines. 2. After your account is created, you can access the site and log-in (see instructions below). 3. You can submit studies, plans, and related engineering submittals electronically for review by PW DES. Acceptable file types to use when submitting plans and studies are:

a. DWG files with no binding and no external referencing (x-refing) b. DWF files c. PDF files d. Raster images (TIF, JPG, BMP, and GIF) e. Microsoft Word Documents (DOC) f. Microsoft Excel Documents (XLS) 4. These will be logged in and review by City staff with less paper shuffle. When the review is complete, redlines and/or comments will be available for you to download in the same location as where you upload the original submittals. You will be notified via email when these are ready for download. 5. Only when your submittals are approved will you need to submit paper copies. It is hoped that, in the future, approved plans will also be accepted electronically. How do I access the site? Your login and password will be provided to you for access after you submit an Account Application see www.denvergov.org for more information. Then: 1. Open your Internet browser. 2. Choose FILE OPEN and copy/paste the following address: a. http://169.133.254.10/destransfer b. Check the Open as Web Folder box and click OK 3. In login box that appears, type your separately supplied USERNAME and PASSWORD. You may have to do this more than once and then select CANCEL, if the box continues to display. The login box, using IE v 6.x looks like:

4. When you successfully login, you will see a folder displayed like the one in the following screen shot. 5. You need to double-click on this folder. Inside you should see:

6. You can double-click on the Upload folder to submit plans/documents and on the Download folder to access redlines or other files made available to you. You can now submit files or download. If using Internet Explorer, it is suggested that you click the Folders button in the middle of the toolbars. If you do, you will see something like the following screen shot, and you will be able to copy/paste files like you normally would. Please submit a transmittal with all submittals and utilize your company prefix for all files upload (the prefix will be the first three characters of your username.) This is required by our IT department. 7. Additional instruction is available upon request. See the contact information below.

8. After initially accessing the site successfully, subsequent attempts may be made in the following manner: a. Open WINDOWS EXPLORER b. Choose my network places from the left side list of folders. c. Choose destransfer on 169.133.254.10 d. When the LOGIN is displayed (should already be filled in as is on left side of this page) click okay. See screen shot below. How do I upload files? After creating the account, you will be notified via email. This email will provide instructions for accessing the site and up/downloading files. Essentially, you will copy files from your computer and paste them to the FTP site, and vice-versa. When is it available? Access is available 24 hrs per day and 7 days per week, with infrequent outages required for maintenance during off hours. What kinds of plan submittals can I upload? 1. Sanitary Sewer Studies 2. Sanitary Sewer Construction Plans 3. Storm Sewer Studies 4. Storm Sewer Construction Plans 5. Transportation Engineering Plans 6. Traffic Impact Studies

7. Documents associated to the above list What file types are allowed? 1. DWG files with no binding and no external referencing (x-ref-ing) 2. DWF files 3. PDF files 4. Raster images (TIF, JPG, BMP, and GIF) 5. Microsoft Word Documents (DOC) 6. Microsoft Excel Documents (XLS) What kind of software and what version is required? Software utilized must create files of the type listed elsewhere in the document and be accessible to City and County of Denver - Public Works Staff. What browser is required to utilize this system? You may access the site with previous versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer Web Browser; however, it is advised that you utilize the most current version of Internet Explorer. Other browser may allow access but are not guaranteed. What about Paper or email submittals? At present, paper submittals are still allowed and can be made in the traditional manner. All electronic submittals should be made via the FTP site. Correspondence can continue to be sent via email and telephone. Do I need an account? You will need to submit the application (downloadable PDF) to have an account created. This account must be created to access the FTP site and up/download files. Your account, if approved, will be created and you will be notified via email. You must then activate and validate your account. How long will my files remain on the FTP site? Your files will be retrieved from the site as soon as possible after our staff is notified. Files that are placed on the site for you to download will be available for one week and may be deleted after that time. You will have to contact PWDES to have them reposted Not finding what you are looking for?
