Millionaire Mindset Program By Lee Milteer, Performance and Productivity Coach Facilitating Speed for Success for Entrepreneurs Interview with Dan Kennedy and Lee Milteer Mental and Behavioral Congruence Dear Millionaire Mindset Members: Our Guest is Millionaire maker Dan Kennedy and he is sharing with us the importance of facilitating speed to create massive success in your business. One of the things that make a huge difference in determining success is that you have to have mental and behavioral congruence to achieve great wealth and success. I asked him about his thoughts on why business owners not only need to change the way they think to facilitate speed of success, but why they also must change the way they act. Why is it important that they not fall back on traditional limits of thinking and actions? Dan is going to share two very important navigational points that I know will be helpful to you. The following passage is Dan s thoughts on the subject of behavioral congruence to achieve speed. Enjoy! Let s talk about behavior first, and then we ll talk about the concept of behavioral congruence. Behavior in general is so important because so much of the literature, especially the current contemporary popular stuff that makes the rounds providing success advice to people, focuses all on the thought. It is barely one nuance away from telling people that if they go out in their backyard and sit under a tree and think about a Porsche clearly and vividly enough that somehow the apple tree is going to suddenly dump a Porsche on their heads. It is barely one nuance away from a childish approach of writing a letter to Santa Claus and asking for what it is that you want. I m very big on telling people that thinking alone won t make it so. Now, thinking is very important, and there are certain types of thinking that successful entrepreneurs engage in that most other people don t, and there are certain types of thinking that most other people engage in that successful entrepreneurs don t. It s useful to figure all that out, but even with all of that aligned properly, thinking alone won t make it so. It really is even more about what you do, the actions that you take everyday, every hour, every minute about what you implement, about what you get done, not what you get started, but what you get done, about what you are able to get other people to do. It is fundamentally about behavior, not just about thought. A person can have all sorts of thoughts about, for example, punctuality, but if they consistently show up everywhere twenty minutes late, then all of their thoughts didn t matter. I used to know a very famous author and speaker who spoke on the subject of time management who was famous for being thirty to forty-five minutes late to every phone call, every appointment, and even every speaking engagement. So, his thoughts were presumably accurate, correct, but his behavior wasn t congruent with them. Now, this gets to this issue of behavioral congruency. 1

It s about what you do, and I might even add that I know some very wealthy and successful people who again, by traditional definitions, would probably be viewed as negative thinkers, not positive thinkers. Yet their actions are such, what they do is effective, productive, and focused that they get extraordinary results. I think there s actually some harm done with this pseudo-metaphysical, to differentiate from the legitimately metaphysical. Pseudo-metaphysical happy thought popularized stuff that tells people, If they just change they way they think, marvelous things, from the cancer going away to their bank account fattening, will occur. That s BS. It has more to do with what it is that you do. Then, what you do needs to be congruent with two very important navigational points. One, it has to be congruent with the thoughts, the intentions, the ambitions, the goals, the plans. I had a very frustrating conversation not long ago with a client of mine who described at great length how they wanted to take their business from three million dollars a year to thirty million dollars a year in twelve months. They had a reasonable plan to do that, and they wanted advice on what needed to be inserted into the plan to really make that plan. One of the things that I recommended was more frequent meetings with their group of distributors and marketers and the people who were responsible for distribution of their products and bringing to them customers. I suggested a format for three meetings a year, and I won t bore you with the details, but when it was all said and done, the person wanted to go from three million to thirty million dollars a year, but they didn t want to do three meetings a year, and actually, they didn t want to do any meetings. There are a handful of other things that would be all classified under the headline of work that they didn t want to do either. Now as I share this story, I know you Lee and you ll think this story, which is true, is hilarious because you have such a strong work ethic and always want to give people such good service. This is of course, why people love to do business with you. But you are a rare soul who actually produces what you say you will when you say you will and not complain about it. Truth is, it s an increasingly epidemic mindset that people expect massive money and success but don t want to work for it. I cannot understand why people don t want to work, yet still expect to be able to earn huge sums of money and be famous and successful. Many of the folks think they can actually get away with getting whatever they want or whatever they dream up by simply wanting it and not working. So, actually, that s the definition of childish behavior, and not multi-millionaire behavior. The first navigational point is that your behavior has to be reasonably congruent with what it is you re trying to attempt to do with the status you want, with the income you want, with the wealth you want. Then, the second navigational point is that behavior has to be congruent with the people who can serve as models, who have already achieved something comparable to what is it that you are setting out to achieve. 2

So, if you re setting out to have the most successful NASCAR team this year, and you re going to invest umpteen millions of dollars to do that, you would be well advised to microscopically study the people who have had the most successful NASCAR teams as predecessors to you, and perhaps the people who have had the most successful NFL team and the most successful major league baseball team and the most successful whatever other analogy you want to draw, not necessarily to be confined what they have done, but to understand what they have done to identify the commonalities in what they have all done so you can make your behavior congruent with theirs. That s really the fastest way to speed up the achievement process is if you can build yourself a composite made up of commonalities in behavior of people who have achieved what it is that you want to achieve, and then bring your behavior in conformance with them, then you re literally, instantly, and automatically transported to the goal or the objective. For Example, if the people you are studying or using as examples all get up at five o clock in the morning and spend two hours doing a list of the same five or six things before they start the work day, my heartfelt recommendation to you would be to start getting up at five o clock in the morning, even if you don t totally understand why that s important or significant. If you re able to invalidate it later, then modify the behavior as you wish, but at least start their coping success models. There are a lot of people running around whose behavior is completely incongruent with the objectives that they speak about, the objectives that they aspire to and think about, and any model that you might be able to find who has already achieved those objectives. If you take a simple thing, say writing a book, almost anybody who writes prolifically fiction, non-fiction, it doesn t make any difference Steven King, Mark Victor Hansen, Jack Canfield, pick whoever it is you want as a starting point, but if you will do a serious investigation of highly successful authors, especially those of more than one book, you ll find all sorts of differences in the way they approach things. The one thing you ll find that is almost a universal commonality is that they write every day, they write to a quota everyday, and they don t quit until they ve hit the quota. The quota might be a page a day for one person. It might be ten pages a day for another, but they all have a quota of pages in common. Some days they might be zipping along and get there in a half an hour, and other days they might have dreaded writer s block and be distracted by the barking dog or the dog that didn t bark, and it might take them four hours to get to the quota, but they don t quit until they get there. Once you know that, if you tell me you re serious about writing and you re serious about putting together a good book or series of books, but you tell me, I only want to write when I feel like it, or I only want to write when I m inspired, or I only want to write on the third Thursday of the month, or I don t want to write on days when my kids have 3

little league games, then you re full of crap. Your behavior is not congruent with what is required in order to achieve the objectives. So the question I have for you is: Is your behavior congruent with what is required and do you have models to help you get there? Think Rich P.S.
