Concerned about not having a qualifying TOEFL or IELTS score? If so, then apply for conditional admission! The conditional admissions / eligibility program at the university is designed for international students who are academically qualified to apply for admission to the university, but need more time to improve their TOEFL or IELTS score. At International Gateways, the reading, writing, and oral communication classes are created specifically to help you succeed in an American university, while the elective classes give you a chance to relax and have fun while learning English. Additionally, you will have many opportunities to participate in campus events and activities with both American and international students. English Language Programs International Gateways has been providing English language programs on the San José State University campus since 1975. Since then, thousands of students from more than 60 countries have improved their English skills for academic, professional or personal purposes. International Gateways offers a variety of programs for international students throughout the year: Academic and Test Preparation an intensive English program to help students prepare for university degree programs M Preparation for students who plan to attend an M or other graduate business degree program and need help preparing for the GT exam Active Communication in English a five-week summer course to build communications skills and learn about Silicon Valley culture Semester at SJSU allows students to enroll in regular SJSU courses without a formal application Our professional faculty is dedicated to creating the best possible classroom learning environment. International House Students Housing Located on the main campus, on-campus housing is just minutes from classes, the library, recreation and dining facilities, and downtown. Freshman students (first-year students) are required to live on campus. The Freshman Housing Requirement Priority Application deadline is May 1, 2016. To apply, visit housing.sjsu.edu in order to download a housing application and submit the following: Apartment Kitchen at Campus Village A completed online University Housing application A $55 non-refundable application fee A $600 initial payment The online application is available as early as October 1, 2015. Residence in University Housing or the International House (I-House) satisfies the Freshman Housing Requirement. Students interested in living in the I-House must apply directly to the I-House (there is no application fee). Applications are available at www.sjsu.edu/ihouse. International House The International House is a co-ed residence for 70 U.S. and Bedroom at Campus Village international students attending SJSU. The I-House is located two blocks from campus and is a large comfortable home featuring friendly interaction among students of many cultures. Residents represent approximately 30 countries and range in age from 17 to 35 years of age, study in a wide variety of programs, and enroll in graduate, undergraduate, and English language programs. I-House offers a one-semester contract and stays open year-round with per diem rates during summer and winter breaks. All furniture, utilities, TV, internet access and computer equipment, as well as use of a fully equipped kitchen are included. 11
