Rules 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. The show will be known as Horsehay Horticultural Society Flower, Vegetable & Craft Show. ALL CLASSES SHALL BE OPEN. Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6, should be grown in the exhibitors own garden at least four weeks before the show. All exhibits to be staged by 10:30 am on the day of the show. The Village Hall will be open on Friday evening 21 st August from 6:30 pm until 9 pm and from 08:30 am to 10:30 am on Saturday 22 nd August for this purpose. No exhibit shall be removed before the scheduled closing time advertised, but must be cleared the same day No second prize will be awarded in any class where there are less than three entries unless the judge deems the prize merited. The judges decision will be final. 6. In the case of any complaints regarding exhibits, the Secretary must be notified before the show closes. 7. The committee will not be responsible for loss or damage which may occur to exhibits or equipment during the show, but will ensure reasonable care. 8. Entrance fee will be 25p per entry, with no maximum charge. 9. Closing date for entries is 9pm on Friday 21stt August 2015. 10. No exhibitor shall make more than one entry in any one class. 11. Prizes will be awarded with regard to quality of exhibits comparable to other exhibits in the same class and not to rarity of species. Page 2

Horsehay Top Tray competition rules 1. 2. 3. 4. The Horsehay Top Tray class is for a collection of three types of vegetables taken from the following list of eight. The quantity of each vegetable required for the collection is given in brackets: Carrots (3), Cauliflower (2), Onions (3), Parsnips (3), Peas (6 pods), Potatoes (3), Runner Beans (6 pods) and Tomatoes (6). Each type of vegetable will be judged out of a total of 20 points. This is split into three sections as follows: 7 points for size, shape and colour: 7 points for condition: 6 points for uniformity. The overall mark will therefore be out of a total of 60 points. All vegetables are to be displayed for effect. The vegetables must be displayed within an area measuring 45 x 60 cm (18 x 24 ), without bending any part of them. No part of any exhibit may exceed the size of the tray. A tray or board measuring 45 x 60 cm (18 x 24 ) can be used to display the vegetables, or the area can simply be marked on the staging. Where a tray has a lip or edge, it is the internal measurements that must not exceed 45 x 60 cm (18 x 24 ). A black cloth is permitted, and the tray may be painted. Parsley is allowed for garnishing, but no other foliage or accessories, such as plates, sand, rings and so on, will be allowed. Onion tops may be tied or whipped using raffia or string. The winner of the Horsehay Top Tray class will receive a 7.00 gift voucher and a gold medal. The runner up will receive a 5.00 gift voucher and a silver medal. The third place will receive a 3.00 gift voucher and a bronze medal. Notes for Exhibitors and Judges * Carrots and Parsnips must have foliage trimmed back to 7.5 cm (3 ). * Peas and beans must be displayed with some stalk attached. * Tomatoes must be displayed with calyces (the green flower bud case). * Judges may handle exhibits, open pods etc. to check for quality. * The tray, board or staging must not be cut or mutilated in any way at all ~ such as cutting holes for standing onions in. * Judges should use their discretion when judging the Top Tray class, remembering that entries may come from inexperienced exhibitors. * The points awarded should be clearly marked by the judges on the exhibitors cards. * Any queries that may arise, regarding anything other than the above rules, should be refereed to and decided by the show officials. * Failure to abide by any of these rules will lead to disqualification. Our show is continuing to grow as the years go by, and this is very important, as a lot of shows sadly have now finished, but we are still going strong, after I think is now about 70 years. TEN Horsehay TEN Horsehay is part of Telford & Wrekin s inclusive Education and Training Services, which offers disabled people the opportunity to develop work based skills and gain recognised qualifications. Our training activities include the production of a wide range of traditional rustic garden furniture and craft items, which can be purchased from our base at TEN Horsehay. As far as possible, we use locally sourced materials, we work closely with a number of local projects supplying schools, libraries and agencies such as the Wildlife Trust and the Green Gym with a wide range of products including bird and bat boxes, custom made seating and fencing. As our products are handcrafted there may be some variation in size and colour. Horsehay Top Vase competition rules 1. The Horsehay Top Vase class is for a vase of mixed flowering stems containing a total of between 5 and 10 taken from a minimum of two different kinds of plants. Please note that it is two different kinds of plants, two varieties of the same plant are not two kinds. 2. The display will be judged out of a total of 35 points, split into: 25 points for the colour, form, conditioning, quality and freshness of the flowers on display, and 10 points for the overall presentation and effect of the flowers in the vase. The vase will be viewed from all directions. Judging of the flowers should be to the normal rules used for the other classes. 3. Stems used in the display must be showing flowers only, no seed heads or berries are allowed. 4. The vase can be any shape and size and made from any material, but must be in proportion to the display. No points are awarded for the vase itself. 5. No accessories such as bows and additional foliage will be allowed. Foliage which is growing naturally from the flowering stem, and still attached to that stem, will be allowed. Packing material including florists foam to keep the stems in place is allowed. 6. The winner of the Horsehay Top Vase class will receive a 7.00 gift voucher and a gold medal. The runner up will receive a 5.00 gift voucher and a silver medal. The third place will receive a 3.00 gift voucher and a bronze medal. Notes for Top Vase exhibitors and judges * Flowering stems can be taken from any flowering plant. * The different kinds of plants need to be taken from different genera, for instance, pinks, carnations and sweet William, which are all Dianthus, would be classed as different kinds. * Only fresh home grown flowers can be used. No dried or silk flowers are allowed. * A vase, by definition, is any vessel that can be used to hold cut flowers and which is taller than it is wide at its widest point. * The Horsehay Top Vase class is open for anyone to enter and is not intended purely for growers who regularly display single species classes at shows. * Judges should use their discretion when judging the Top Vase class, bearing in mind that the entries may have come from inexperienced exhibitors. * Judges and exhibitors should also note that the display has to be viewed all around. * The points awarded should be clearly marked by the judges on the exhibitor s cards. * Any queries that may arise, regarding anything other than the above rules, should be referred to, and decided by the show officials. * Failure to abide by any of these rules will lead to disqualification. Fruit cake Ingredients: 500g Mixed dried fruit 1 Mug soft brown sugar 2 Eggs (beaten) 2 Mugs self raising flour Please note 9 fluid ounces = 1 Mug Method Soak the fruit in 1 mug of hot tea overnight. Mix all the ingredients together and put them in a lined 21b loaf tin or a round 8 inch Cake tin. Bake at gas mark 3 for about 2 hours. Victoria Sponge Sandwich Ingredients 170 g (6 oz) Self raising flour, 170 g (6 oz) Caster sugar, 170 g (6 oz) Butter or Margarine., 3 Eggs, Pinch of salt, Raspberry or Strawberry jam filling,caster sugar for dusting. Method 1. Grease, then line the bottoms of two 18 cm (7 ) sandwich tins with greaseproof paper. 2. Cream butter and sugar together until very pale in colour, light in texture and fluffy. 3. Beat in eggs, one at a time. 4. Gently fold in the flour with a metal spoon. 5. Transfer to prepared tins and smooth tops with a knife. 6. Bake at 180 c (350 f) gas mark 4, for 25-30 minutes, or until well risen and golden brown. 7. Leave in tins for 2-3 minutes. Turn out on a wire cooling rack. 8. Strip off paper and leave until cold.
