We have provided a brief summary as an example, however encourage you to do this as a self assessment. In the actual test marks are given for: Correct spelling and punctuation Grammar and sentence formation Vocabulary Logical flow of ideas Legibility of handwriting Footy fans are being urged to drink responsibly over the finals series with the new Just Think in September campaign backed by all the top eight clubs captains. The campaign, launched in the Herald Sun last week will support the fight against the alcohol-fuelled street violence that has gripped Melbourne s streets. Prime Minister Julia Gillard yesterday attended the official MCG launch of the campaign, which is being supported by the players union and the AFL. Ms Gillard threw her weight behind the campaign, warning that one in five men between 18 and 24 years drinks alcohol to dangerous levels at least once a week. Hawthorn captain Sam Mitchell admitted he would prefer to be preparing for the finals but stressed the campaign was aimed at encouraging people to enjoy a drink, but take responsibility for their actions. We are not saying don t drink, just think, he said. What is the article talking about? This is the type of summary we expect on the test. A new campaign backed by the captains of the AFL. The campaign is supporting an anti-violence stance in response to the violence experienced in Melbourne. The Prime minister is also supporting the campaign and warns that men between the ages of 18 to 24 are using alcohol in a dangerous manner. The campaign aims to raise the issue of responsible drinking.

Page 5 NUMERACY On this section of the test, you can expect questions in the following areas. Multiplication Division on 10s, 100s, and 1000s. Adjusting the decimal points of numbers Subtraction Addition Percentages Fractions Using the metric system for conversions Analytical questions Problem solving Reading information in a graphical representation Reading information from a table To assist in the numeracy section, we suggest using the free trial on the MacDonald s Mathematics site on the web - www.mathsonline.com.au Select years 7 & 8 and complete the worksheet activities that are similar to those listed on the numeracy test. Eg. Fractions. You can also see sample test questions via the VETASSESS website www.vetassess.com.au We strongly recommend you do this, even if you feel your numeracy skills are adequate. Numeracy skills, by a large margin are the major reason most applicants fail the test.
