Cardone has been focused on the construction and analysis of efficient and accurate (parallel) methods for the numerical solution of Volterra Integral Equations (VIEs), and on the development of the required software. Systems of VIEs model a large number of biological problems, such as dynamics of populations and the spread of epidemics and, in general, all evolution problems with memory. The computational cost of the numerical solution of VIEs may be very high, due to the evaluation of the numerical lag-term, i.e. the term which collect all the past history of the phenomenon. The cost may notably increase when the dimension of the system is large. The main topics concern the numerical solution of the following problems: large systems of Volterra integral equations of Abel type; Volterra-Fredholm integral equations on bounded and unbounded spatial domains; Double-delay Volterra Integral Equations; Volterra Integral Equations with periodic solution; Volterra Integro-differential equations; Asymptotically periodic Discrete Volterra equations. Most recently, part of the research has been devoted to Explicit General Linear Methods with Quadratic Stability for the numerical solution od Ordinary Differential Equations, in collaboration with Prof. Zdzislaw Jackiewicz, from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona (USA). 6 Publications 1.
