LIFE SETTLEMENT TRADE MISSION

From LISA s Exeutive Diretor Writing from a perspetive unique to the birthplae of life settlements, I an tell you unequivoally, the numbers do not lie. onsider these: Doug Head 2005 - $5.5 billion in fae transferred in the seondary market. 2006 - $6.1 billion transferred. 2007 - $12.2 billion. 2008 - $11.8 billion. Despite the leveling in 2008, and while 2009 numbers are yet to be firmly assessed, this trend is extraordinary for a market just one deade old. Ours is an industry grounded in U.S. law, embraed by onsumers and broadly regulated by the States. Despite formidable opposition from the U.S. insurane industry, fats on the ground are foring insurers to reognize what is already understood by so many: life settlements are an aepted and established finanial option. Approximately 76 million Baby Boomers omprise the U.S. work fore. This substantial population is urrently reevaluating their finanial options and preparing to retire. The seondary market is uniquely positioned to eduate and serve this vital demographi. The time is now for serious investment into a finanial option speifially designed to serve our aging populations. http:// www.thevoieoftheindustry.om/news-detail.aspx? newsid=456 http:// www.thevoieoftheindustry.om/news-detail.aspx? newsid=456 http:// www.thevoieoftheindustry.om/news-detail.aspx? newsid=2878 http:// www.thevoieoftheindustry.om/news-detail.aspx? newsid=2872 http:// aselaw.lp.findlaw.om/gibin/getase.pl? ourt=us&vol=222&invol=1 49 The Life Insurane Settlement Assoiation (LISA) is heartened to see suh a robust response from the European investment ommunity. LIFE SETTLEMENT TRADE MISSION 13

London Andrew Wilkins It is my pleasure to welome you to London for the inaugural ross ontinent life settlement trade mission, o-hosted by the Life Insurane Settlement Assoiation (LISA) and European Life Settlement Assoiation (ELSA). This marks an important development in the European market for life settlements in reognising a maturing industry, and engineering a platform through whih ideas an be exhanged, ommon standards of best pratie and transpareny are established, and a mutually benefiial dialogue is ontinued with both loal and international investors. This is a neessary step for the burgeoning life settlements industry. The finanial risis and its aftermath have undersored the need for investors to diversify into investment hoies that provide a soure of low market orrelation and allow for more preditable returns. Yet that same eonomi dissatisfation the finanial risis engendered has simultaneously left investors apprehensive of finanial innovation at large. Life settlements provide a viable and effetive solution. A forum for open disussion and ommuniation is required to ommuniate the tremendous opportunity, the development of the market, and the quality solutions available. In this, we welome the trade mission and the debate it allows. A growing industry must demonstrate its maturity and viability, engaging with investors and the media. It is essential that the market is better informed, that questions are answered and ruially unambiguous standards of best pratie are adopted to put the industry on a firm and harmonized footing, transparent and benefiial to all.
