New Elective Choices Now Available! PRACTICAL LEGAL TRAINING 2015 HANDBOOK Your legal career starts here...

WHAT IS PRACTICAL LEGAL TRAINING? T he first essential step to becoming a lawyer in Australia is to complete a law degree. A law degree provides you with the theoretical framework that underpins your understanding of law and legal practice in Australia. The second essential step to being admitted is completion of a Practical Legal Training program (PLT) *, which is usually undertaken at the completion of your law degree. PLT is a structured training program designed to develop your practical skills and proficiency in the actual day-to-day practice of law, which you will need when starting work as an entry level lawyer. On completion of a PLT program you are awarded a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP). The award of the GDLP makes you eligible to apply for admission as a legal practitioner in your state or territory.
