MAT INTERNSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS Please carefully read the following before submitting your Internship Application: Your internship application and progress in the teacher education program will be reviewed by a Program Area Competency Review Committee to determine if you are prepared to begin the Professional Stage of the program. Considerations for internship placements Ensuring that each teacher candidate experiences diversity among field placements while at Winthrop Placing each candidate with a qualified mentor teacher believed to be a good match for the candidate Placing candidates primarily in Partnership Network Schools within the following South Carolina school districts (unless extenuating circumstances arise): Cherokee, Chester, Clover, Fairfield, Fort Mill, Lancaster, Rock Hill, Union and York (for a list of schools visit http://www2.winthrop.edu/netscope/partner_sites.htm) Internship placements are based on many factors, including those listed above. You are required to complete your internship at a different school with a different mentor teacher. Due to these factors we are not able to accept requests for specific schools or teachers. However, if you have circumstances that impact your school placement, please attach a detailed explanation of your situation. Important PRAXIS II information As an MAT student, you must pass the Specialty Area Exams required for your major prior to starting your internship. The last possible test date available for spring 2011 MAT interns is vember 13, 2010. You must register by October 14 at www.ets.org/praxis. Please review this link to determine which Specialty Area Exams are required for your major in South Carolina: http://www.scteachers.org/cert/certpdf/required_examinations.pdf Passing scores on the PLT (Principles of Learning and Teaching) are not required to begin your internship. However, passing scores on the PLT and all Specialty Area Exams are required for South Carolina certification. Students majoring in areas leading to K-12 certification may take either the grades K-6 or 7-12 PLT test. Please list Winthrop University (5910) and the SC Dept. of Education (8108) as score recipients. Please include your social security number when registering as this is the only identifying number used by the SC Dept. of Education to match your scores with your certification file. If you register online, you will receive your scores electronically and will only have access to them for a certain period of time specified by ETS. Please save and print your scores as soon as you receive them. *Internship placement letters will be mailed to your permanent address in December 2010.* After you have completed the application please check the following: Has your advisor signed the application?
