The Andrea G. and Jerre D. Sumter is awarded to a worthy Honors College student whose major is in the College of Arts and Sciences. This fund was established to enable Honors College students to engage in and learn from community service work. Preference is given to those students conducting fieldwork in the areas of AIDS-HIV issues, children's issues, education, housing, women's issues, and intergenerational programming. This fellowship is awarded at the beginning of each semester. Interested students should contact Dr. Susan Alexander to arrange an interview and complete and application. Currently, the fund primarily supports First Year Honors Passports. First Year Honors Passport funding is offered to several worthy first-year stunts who wish to study abroad but have not previously applied for a U.S. passport. The award will cover the cost of the passport application fee and will be award during the spring semester. Edmund Martin Foley Thesis Award Yes. The thesis application will qualify as the application for this award. Eligibility will be determined by the Honors College thesis coordinator and review committee. The Foley family established this fund to assist students who are pursuing senior theses that reflect Edmund's interest in the "philosophy of mind or another topic addressed in his unique style: creative, thoughtful, tolerant, and fund loving." Recipients must be pursuing a B.S. degree in on of the following disciplines: Biochemistry and Molecular Chemistry; Biological Sciences; Biology; Biomedical Engineering; Cardiovascular Technology; Chemical Engineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Engineering; Computer Information Systems; Computer Sciences; Electrical Engineering; Engineering Sciences; Geological Sciences; Geophysics' Mathematics; Mechanical Engineering; Physics; or Statistics. The scholarship may be renewed annually for up to three years if the recipient remains in good standing with the Honors College and continues to study in the academic areas mentioned above. The Honors College application serves as the primary application for the Belser ; however, applications must also submit their FAFSA by March 1 of the year they will matriculate. Students who do not submit a FAFSA will not be considered for this scholarship. Additionally, applicants may submit a supplemental letter that further details their financial situations and academic work. Fishman Family and Komito The Fishman Family and Komito is awarded to junior and seniors whose majors are in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management or who have declared an interest in pre-law. If the recipient is a junior, the scholarship may be awarded for one consecutive year given the student maintains his/her current course of study, remains in good standing with the Honors College, and maintain a GPA of 3.5 or better. McAnulty The McAnulty will be awarded to a rising junior or senior whose major is in Sport and Entertainment Management, or in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Preference, however, will be given to applicants in Sport and Entertainment Management. This award may be renewed for the 4th year of study if the student meets the eligibility requirements. To qualify, interested students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, be in good standing with the Honors College, and demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is automatically renewed for rising seniors who received the award as rising juniors, if the above requirements continue to be met and they write a thank you note to their donor. Students beyond their fourth year may apply for this award. However, priority will be given to 3rd and 4th year students. Awards to 5th year students will be made on a funds-available basis. Students who hold the award during their 4th year, must reapply to receive it in their 5th year. To apply a student must write a letter to the Dean of the Honors College requesting consideration for the Mould/Sederberg. The letter should detail the academic work that the student has been pursuing and hopes to continue to pursue. It should also discuss the student's financial situation and how this scholarship will help. Applications for the next academic year are due by April 1. Sherri and Charles Timmons The Sherri and Charles Timmons Endowed will be awarded to a worthy student whose major is in the Darla Moore School of Business. The scholarship is automatically renewed annually if the recipient maintains a 3.5 GPA or higher, is in good standing with the Honors College, and continues as a student in the DMSB. To receive this scholarship, students must submit a scholarship agreement form to the Honors College scholarship coordinator by April 1.
