Pacific Chunky Taking Flight Designed by Shannon Thomas The cable work in this tween sweater evokes images of rockets launching into the great unknown, of space flight and exploring the deep reaches of our universe. Skill Level: Intermediate Skills Needed: Knit, purl, picking up stitches, cables, three-needle bind-off Chest measurements: 28, 30, 32, 34 Materials: Cascade Yarns Pacific Chunky, 60% acrylic, 40% Superwash Merino Wool, (100 g (3.5 oz) / 120 yds (110 m) 4 (5,6,7) skeins chunky weight yarn, color #73 (Denim) SPECIAL NOTE: The model of 28 used nearly four entire skeins. An extra skein is recommended for back up in the event the knitter has different gauge or wishes to make changes. Continue working in the round, incorporating the stitch pattern from the chart on the first 14 sts. Work pattern and ribbing until piece measures 2. Change to larger needles. Increase round: Work pattern sts. P the rest of round, increasing 1 st every 8 (8, 9, 9) sts. To 106 (110, 118, 122) sts.

When piece measures 12 (14½, 18½, 20½), work to center 14 sts, put 14 sts of cable on stitch holder. Join second ball of yarn and work to end of row. From this point, each side is worked separately. BO at each neck edge 2 (2, 2, 2) sts over next 2 rows. BO at each neck edge 1 st. 1 (1, 2, 2) times. Each shoulder is 17 (18, 19, 20) sts. Work until piece measures same as back. Join back shoulders to front shoulders with three-needle BO. Center back and center front sts remain on stitch holders. Neckline With smaller needle, beg at left shoulder, pick up 7 (7, 9, 9) sts. Work from front neckline stitch holder: Purling to cable, K4, P2, K2, P2, K4 of cable, P remaining sts

from holder. Pick up 7 (7, 9, 9) sts right neckline. P18 (18, 20, 20) of back neckline. Sizes 28 & 30: Next round P2, K2, P2, K2, P2 [K4, P2, K2, P2, K4] *P2, K2, rep from * to end of round. Size 32 & 34: Next round P1, K2, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2 [K4, P2, K2, P2, K4] *P2, K2, rep from * to end of round. Repeat ribbing / cable pattern until neckline measures 1½ (1¾, 2, 2¼). BO in pattern. Sleeves With larger needle, beg at base of armhole, pick up 50 (56, 62, 64) sts around armhole opening, using preferred method for working in the round. Join and work in the round. Working in Reverse Stockinette st, 1 st at beg and 1 st at end of every 5 th (5 th,5 th, 4 th ) round 9 (11, 13, 14) times. Decrease 2 (4, 2, 2) sts evenly spaced. Change to smaller needle. *P2, K2, rep from * to end of round. Work P2, K2 ribbing for 1 (1½, 2, 2). BO loosely in ribbing pattern. Finishing Weave in ends. Block.
