United Way of Miami-Dade Leadership Circle

My parents taught me the importance of commitment to the community at an early age. I have been richly blessed in life and find that giving my time and treasure to and through United Way, with its values and community intensity, is a perfect way to live those teachings. - Penny S. Shaffer, Ph.D. Market President, South Florida Florida Blue Miami has been built on the world s most diverse dreams. Our United Way nurtures those dreams and leverages that diversity, empowering more people to share in our vision for the best possible future. - Carlos A. Migoya President & CEO Jackson Health System Corporate social responsibility has been engrained in me since I began working at UPS more than 30 years ago. We are proud to leverage our national footprint and partner with the United Way to support and increase awareness about community-serving organizations that empower our local neighborhoods. I am excited to lead the efforts for this year s program and look forward to continue being an advocate for years to come. Romaine M. Seguin President & CEO UPS Americas and the Caribbean United Way of Miami-Dade Founded in 1924, United Way of Miami-Dade strengthens the community by improving the education, financial stability and health of our residents. Why education, financial stability and health? Education is the foundation of it all. A good education leads to better jobs with better pay. A stable income is key to greater financial independence. Good health allows children to learn better, adults to increase their income through productive work and older adults to remain independent in their homes. How do we go about this work? First, we begin by asking some tough questions and listening to the community. Then, we partner with individuals and organizations with the expertise to create solutions. We invest in quality programs, we advocate for policies that improve lives, we collaborate. We evaluate our work and report our results to you. By working together, we can solve some of our biggest challenges. We can build a thriving community in which we all want to live, work and raise our families. We invite you to join us to LIVE UNITED by giving, advocating and volunteering. Why give to United Way? Because we are local. You make our community of Miami-Dade a better place to live by helping tens of thousands of people achieve a better quality of life every year right in your own backyard. Because you call the shots. People like you volunteers from all professions, neighborhoods and backgrounds look at the needs of the community and make decisions about how to best invest in the United Way community plan. Because your voice will be heard. As an effective agent of change, United Way is your advocate within public policy, for bringing much-needed dollars into the local community as well as instituting and changing policies that support struggling working families. Because your financial gift goes farther. Every $1 you give to the United Way community plan turns into $2.30 worth of help for your neighbors. Because we are accountable. We take our role as stewards of your generosity very seriously. We adhere to strict governance practices which include volunteer oversight at every level to ensure that our operations meet the highest levels of professionalism and excellence. United Way of Miami-Dade consistently receives high ratings from charity watchdog organizations for efficient and effective operations.. Because great things happen when we LIVE UNITED. Your gift to the United Way community plan is the most powerful way to change lives throughout your local community. By supporting United Way s work in the three building blocks for a good life education, financial stability and health you personally help improve the quality of life for us all. Thank you for making such an important gift.. 2 1

Thank you Loyal Contributors 35,000 of you have been giving to any United Way for 10 years or more. Thank you Loyal Contributors! We celebrate you! The effects of your remarkable commitment and generosity will continue to change lives and transform our communities for years to come. In gratitude for your service, we d like to present you with a red feather pen an emblem of generosity that became synonymous with charitable giving in the late 1940s when it was used by hundreds of Community Chests, War Chests and United Funds, the forerunners of today s United Way. Today it can be yours to wear as a powerful demonstration of your legacy of support for programs improving the education, financial stability and health of our community. Your giving is truly a benchmark of compassion and an example of altruism for us all to follow. Thank you. United Way really touches all sectors, it helps everyone in our community. There is no other organization that can do that and do it so well. I believe in United Way s three pillars, education, financial stability, and health, and that is why I have chosen United Way and invite others to join me in supporting its work. - Miguel G.
