Introduction This report highlights the performance results of certification tests performed on the Seneca XVault xnvr solutions. Specifically the xnvr400 and the xnvr300 platforms which hosted XProtect Recording Servers and provided hard disk space for both the long term archive and live video database storage within a Milestone XProtect video management software (VMS) surveillance system. The Milestone Technology Partner (MTP) Certification program seeks to confirm that server, storage, and network solutions provided by qualified MTP vendors meet the performance benchmarks required to support the Milestone XProtect VMS applications, and to measure the maximum performance available to Milestone customers if they choose to build a solution using certified MTP products. Certified Products Seneca XVault xnvr300 Seneca XVault xnvr400 Milestone XProtect Corporate 2013 R2 o Listed Seneca XVault xnvr solutions are certified for use with the entire XProtect product line. Performance of the solution may vary if different XProtect products and/or system components not listed in the tests details are included. For a complete list of all equipment used in the certification check Appendix B. Test Process After installation and configuration of all required system components, the first step in the test was to establish a benchmark performance level against which to measure the performance of the system under more data-intensive levels of video recording. Once the benchmark was established the test process calls for increasing the parameters of the video streams to add more data to each stream and each recording server, including the number of cameras, the video codec format, resolution, frames-persecond, and compression levels. The process of increasing the parameters involved adding additional simulated cameras to the NVR. This process used 1 megapixel resolution streams, with compression of 60% and frame rate of 30 frames per second (FPS). As far as codec options: H.264 was chosen as the only codec with which all tests would be performed due to the overwhelming utilization of this codec in new IP video surveillance installations. The performance of the array was monitored as the number of cameras was increased until we reached an unacceptable level of write latency, CPU consumption, archive event duration, or video frame loss. At that point the data load was reduced, and the performance was monitored again. If the system operates at the reduced level of data load within acceptable parameters, then a full data capture takes place and the maximum performance of the storage array is defined to be at the observed levels of data and video stream parameters. 3 Seneca - MTP Certification Summary
Topology The system topology included one server running a Microsoft Windows x64 based Server 2008 operating system hosting the Milestone XProtect Corporate Management Server, Management Client and Smart Client used to administer the system and display video. The Seneca XVault xnvr300 and xnvr400 were installed in the network, and XProtect Recording Servers were installed on these machines. The network and all of the NICs on the servers and the storage systems supported Gigabit Ethernet. The test topology is shown below: XProtect Corporate Management Server XProtect Smart Client XProtect Corporate Management Client Seneca Data XNVR Series NVRs XProtect Corporate Recording Server Virtual Camera Simulator Key Findings The Seneca XVault xnvr series, and specifically the xnvr300 and xnvr400 are certified hardware solutions for use with the Milestone XProtect VMS. Both of the tested product models easily supported the benchmark video data throughput levels as recommended by the Milestone Server and Storage Calculator. Seneca XVault xnvrs with larger live database storage capacity are also available, and would have been able to support even more cameras and total throughput. Contact Seneca Data to get all of the details about their products. The video stream profile used for both the benchmark and maximum load tests of the xnvr solution included the following parameters: 1240x720 image resolution, H.264 video codec, 60% video compression, and 30 frames per second. The xnvr performed well above expectations, outpacing the XProtect Server and Storage calculator by anywhere from 1.5 to 5 times more, in terms of cameras supported. These solutions are certified, and can be used to support XProtect Recording Servers which are recording between 1 and 50 cameras at megapixel resolution. Larger systems could be built using larger live databases, multiple xnvrs, and multiple Recording Servers. The XProtect and Seneca architecture is highly scalable when multiple xnvrs are included, and could support virtually any size video surveillance and security system. 5 Seneca - MTP Certification Summary
