Master in International Relations A world of possibilities www.ie.edu

Master in International Relations The Master in International Relations will enable you to participate successfully in international projects that require the cooperation of different players in the public and private sectors, including nongovernmental and civil society organizations. I would like to thank you for your interest in IE's Master in International Relations. Whether you read the information in this brochure, explore the IE website, or ask members of the widespread IE community (students, alumni, professors and other IE professionals) you will reach the same conclusion -that selecting the IE Master for your graduate studies in international relations is the first step in a successful strategy for your professional and personal development. The Master in International Relations at IE is a program wholly dedicated to teaching, researching, and reflecting on world affairs. As such, it will act as the spearhead of IE's international projection, which responds to our firm belief that global awareness is vital to the success of today's projects in both public and private sectors. It is not by mere chance that some 40.000 of our alumni are working on 5 continents, and that more than 80 nationalities are represented among our student body. In addition, the diversity of our faculty places us among the most international postgraduate institutions in the world. IE's Master in International Relations' objective is to train internationally-oriented professionals with a good knowledge of the different elements that make up our complex and multipolar world. The program's focus will be on that most influential of international organizations, the European Union, which is a model for every process of regional integration on the planet and one of globalization's main driving forces. The Master in International Relations at IE has all the ingredients for success in an international career. Should you decide that IE is the right place to invest a year of your life in pursuit of the knowledge and professional skills necessary in this dynamic and changing world, the extent of your contribution to society and your own professional success will depend solely on your commitment to achieving them. But don't take our word for it -find out for yourself. Arantza de Areilza Dean School of Arts and Humanities

Why study a Master in International Relations at IE? As a department of one of Europe's leading schools, we have over three decades of experience in offering Master programs that combine coursework with a uniquely practical approach. Madrid and Brussels IE's urban campus is located in the heart of Madrid, Spain, where IE students also have the benefits of learning and using Spanish, the world's second major business language. A week of field work will take place in Brussels, the seat of the European Union, the headquarters of NATO, and the capital of Belgium. Brussels is home to thousands of diplomats, career civil servants, and other top players in international relations; few cities in the world can rival its international atmosphere. Faculty Any Master in International Relations is only as good as the professors that make up its faculty. At IE, our faculty provides a unique learning experience, combining hands-on practice with cutting-edge research and scholarship. IE professors are not just experts in their fields. Each one is a skilled instructor who excels in IE's culturally diverse and challenging classrooms. Almost 50% of our faculty is international and virtually all have studied or worked abroad and have graduated from many of the world's greatest centers of learning. Our full-time faculty is a core group of scholars, researchers and teachers dedicated to developing and transmitting knowledge on a variety of international relations and business issues. The IE Experience IE alumni form part of a 40,000 strong network spread over 100 countries across the world. They share far more than a master's degree. They share the IE experience - a life-changing experience in an international school that is independent and diverse, where entrepreneurship and innovation form part of the day-to-day fabric, along with academic excellence, a superlative corporate network, and socially responsible vision. International Environment Students at IE enjoy a truly international atmosphere, with more than 80 nationalities on campus and a faculty comprising almost 50% international professors. Academic Excellence IE is ranked by the international press as one of the best business schools in the world - among the top 5 in Europe and top 20 worldwide. IE is also fully recognized by the three leading accreditation agencies in the business education arena: AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA, three prestigious institutions whose recognition guarantees the quality of business management training programs. This three-fold achievement is known in the sector as the triple crown. Global Reach IE is truly international, not only in terms of student body and faculty, but also in the content of its programs. International rankings by Financial Times, BusinessWeek, Wall Street Journal and The Economist place IE among the five top business schools in Europe, and among leading schools worldwide for its MBA and Executive Education Programs.

Master in International Relations Program objectives Many people feel an intense international vocation but this is seldom accompanied by definite career goals. What does it take to be a consultant of international stature, a respected diplomat, a leading international civil servant, or the innovative manager of an NGO with global outreach? IE's Master in International Relations is designed to help you answer these questions and to transform your calling into a specific career plan. Moreover, the program will enable you to participate successfully in international projects that require the cooperation of different players in the public and private sectors, including non-governmental and civil society organizations. The European Union The European Union is the most successful of all international organizations, the world's largest market and the biggest aid donor. Moreover, it is also an ideal testing ground for the international relations student: a vast forum where all sorts of cross-border issues are debated and decided every day. Such decisions have an influence that reaches way beyond the European continent: only the United States can compete with the EU in shaping globalization. Your international career will be affected by the European Union and, therefore, it should play a central role in your international relations training. Participants IE's Master in International Relations comprises a talented, diverse and ambitious group of students capable of bringing strong momentum to the learning process and of leaving their mark on this dynamic and innovative program. Program length: 10 months Intake: October Structure: Full-time on-campus education Program Language: English Students are admitted on the basis of an excellent academic track record and relevant international experience. While not strictly essential, professional experience is highly valued. The program is aimed at graduates from diverse fields, such as Political Science, Sociology, Law, Economics, Business, Communication and Journalism, who have a clear interest in international relations. Participants must possess a university degree or equivalent.

Features of the Master in International Relations at IE International careers. We are keenly aware of the complexity of career development in international relations. Thus, IE Careers Management Center, in close cooperation with the Director of Master in International Relations, will advise and assess students so that they can make the right professional decisions after graduation. Fields covered include diplomacy, international organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), public-private partnerships, and multinational companies. Study the European Union from within. Spain offers a vantage starting point for the study of European institutions: on the one hand, Spain is now a consolidated major player in the EU; on the other, memories from the times when it was a newcomer are still fresh, thus facilitating an analysis of the position that many Central and Eastern European countries occupy today. Field work in Brussels. A salient feature of the program is a week-long trip to Brussels, including visits to all major EU institutions (Parliament, Council, and Commission) to study the workings of Europe's powerhouse of decision-making and policy development in situ. Electives. The program's April to July trimester will include an electives period in which students can choose from a list of subjects that are offered in IE business and law programs. Madrid: making the most of the capital. The program's academic curriculum will be enriched by a series of visits and events that will make use of the largely untapped potential of Madrid's political, diplomatic, defense, business and financial communities. The case method. IE's experience places the student at the epicenter of the learning process. Programs are centered round the case method, which places students in real situations for their deliberation in an international environment. The case method is particularly suited to the study of international relations and will play a pivotal role in this program, where a stipulated maximum of 45 students will decisively enhance the interactive nature of all classes. International skills. The program places a marked emphasis on the specific skills and languages that form an essential part of international relations. Highly innovative courses afford participants a thorough working knowledge of multicultural teambuilding, multilingual communication, negotiation in international forums and other key competencies that make up a complete toolkit for every internationally-oriented professional.
