BEST - Best Enterprise System for Training Leonardo da Vinci - Transfer of Innovation REPORT ON THE EVALUATION OF THE GDANSK MODEL Meeting in Gdansk Poland 23rd-24th May 2011

Introduction The aim of these guidelines is to help representatives of enterprises and VET to evaluate the quality of the BEST project and its activities. It introduces key areas and indicators to help: recognise key strengths of the Gdansk model, identify those areas where some improvement or further action is needed, make necessary decisions to address weaknesses. Process of transferring the innovative aspects of the Gdansk-System What is the Gdansk Model? The Gdansk-System is based on strengthening cooperation between Vocational Schools and diverse companies, allowing establishing of training courses according to real needs prevailing on the labour market. Educationally trained practitioners act as company representatives that reside in the vocational schools. These companies establish workshop rooms housed within the vocational school building and train students practically. The benefit to companies is customized training according to their needs, and the benefit for schools is a secure and well monitored practical training environment with the latest equipment used in the profession. 1

THE GDANSK MODEL Methodology used to analyse the data The evaluation questionnaire was filled in by 12 people who attended the Gdansk meeting. They represent 7 enterprises and 5 VET centres. The data collected were analysed and their answers processed in the following graphs. Some question were open questions. Here their comments have been reported. 1. Please tell us how you would rate your attractiveness to the Gdansk Model according to the following indicators: : 5,0 4,0 4,9 4,3 4,4 4,3 4,3 3,0 2,0 1,0 0,0 Setting up training courses satisfying real and precise economic needs Support trainees in entering the labour market Design of customized training paths according to company needs Development of networks involving local private/public actors Identification of private/public funds 1. Not attractive at all 2. Not attractive 3. Neutral 4. Attractive 5. Very attractive 2

2. What do you like most about the Gdansk Model? It provides a tried and tested method that is proven successful on how schools and businesses may cooperate, including sample contracts and agreements of understanding. The model is simple in structure and open to discussions, which many colleges and universities do not currently have. Most colleges are very rigid in their structure and not flexible to adapt this type of model. For enterprises; possibility to introduce products to trainees before arriving on the labour market and train them. For schools; contribution of material and latest know-how. Competition factor to attract new students to their school. Cooperation between enterprises and schools. Wide range of offers; connects different subjects from the labour market and school. Planning of training. Both parts interested in cooperation. Cooperation among school, local labour market and institution of the labour market. Systematic. Agreements between schools and companies are very good and effective. 3. What do you like least about the Gdansk Model? Nothing comes to mind Nothing it was very good! At this introduction phase; nothing comes to mind. In the future as competition toughens between schools, I can see difficulties for the schools to attract the companies as well as a dependency factor. Everything is very well organized, there is no negative features It should be used by others. Distance from the company to the training centre. Economic part/side of the cooperation. Lack of distribution/dissemination in the whole country Competitiveness among schools. 3

4. How would you rate the impact /benefit of the Gdansk model? for students 4,8 for enterprises 4,3 for VET 4,5 1. Very low 2. Low 3. Neutral 4. Medium 5. High TRAINING ROOM How would you rate the equipment of the training room? 24% 23% neutral good very good 53% 4

INTEREST (FOR ENTERPRISE ONLY) Overall, how interested are you in establishing a similar partnership with VET centres in your country? 17% 83% OVERALL REACTION Overall, what is your reaction to the Gdansk Model? 17% 33% good very good excellent 50% 5

PROJECT MANAGEMENT These questions are designed to get your feedback on the management of the piloting: 5,0 4,3 4,3 4,3 4,5 4,0 3,0 2,0 1,0 0,0 I was well informed about the objectives of this meeting This meeting lived up to my expectations The content is relevant to my job The meeting encouraged exchange of information The meeting activities stimulated my learning The language used was easy to understand 6

MEETING CONTENT How would you evaluate the meeting preparation and implementation? I was well informed about the objectives of this meeting 67% neither agree nor disagree 33% This meeting lived up to my expectations neither agree nor disagree 33% 67% 7

the content is relevant to my job 25% 75% The meeting encouraged exchange of information 8% 92% The meeting activities stimulated my learning 75% 25% 8

The language used was easy to understand 42% 25% 33% disagree The meeting fostered cooperation among participants 17% 83% 9

PLEASE WRITE BRIEFLY ANY SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS/ ADDITIONS TO THE MODEL. Nothing comes to mind. There could be more people coming from industries to talk about their experience good or bad. There should be more visual information available to students to see how the colleges work with companies. Schools might benefit from good information how to campaign with enterprises for collaboration. Understanding the mechanisms of their marketing budgets. Examples for other schools in the construction field. Problems in procedures of giving schools materials and tools. This project and other should be more frequent and regard wider range of topics; I would increase its frequency. It is good. More workshop. Respondent Characteristics I am a representative of a: Company 7 Training centre 5 10
