Questions & Answers about the GED Demographics Form Q Why do I have to fill out this form? A The GED Demographics Form is a comprehensive survey of your background and personal history. It is similar to the information you had to fill out in the old version of the GED, with items such as your name, address, and Social Security Number. Q Why is it eight pages long? A The form asks you for more detailed information about such things as your educational background, how you prepared to take the GED, and more detailed reasons for why you are taking the test. Q Why do I have to go to an Adult Education and Literacy Center to fill out the form? Can t I just do it on the day of the test? A Because the form is longer, it takes more time to fill it out. This is time that cannot be used on the same day as testing because it would make the day run longer, which we think puts an added strain on everyone, both testers and testing staff. The experts at the AEL centers can help you fill out the form correctly and answer any questions you have about the demographics form. Q Do I have to enroll in AEL classes to be able to fill out the demographics form? A You are not required to take AEL classes in order to complete the form, but we strongly encourage everyone who plans to take the GED to spend at least some time in an AEL center preparing for the test. Missouri AEL centers are designed to help you effectively prepare to do your best on the GED exam. The AEL educators can help you to learn and remember the things you ll need to know on the exam. Studies consistently show that people who take AEL classes pass the exam at a higher rate than those who do not. Q Why do I have to turn in the demographics form to register for the test? A At Three Rivers College, we require pre-registration for all GED exams. By turning in your demographics form beforehand, you help us reduce the time spent on registration and seating the day of the test. Q Why can t I fold the demographics form to mail it? A The form is a computer-scanned form, and any folds in the page will prevent it from going through the scanning computer. So if you fold it, the form becomes unusable. Q What happens if I fold the demographics form, or if it gets torn, or if I spill something on it? A If the form is not in good, scannable condition, we will return the form to you and ask you to provide us with a new form. You will not be allowed to register for the test until we receive the form in good, undamaged condition. Q What if I have to retake the GED test? Will I have to fill out this demographics form again. A No. You are only required to fill out the demographics form once. Those retesting will not have to submit the form when they register to take the test again. Q How can I find an AEL center near where I live? A A complete list of all Missouri Adult Education and Literacy Centers is attached to this Q&A sheet. You should contact your local center for specific information about hours of operation and times available for assistance in completing the demographics form. Remember, each GED testing center in Missouri is working hand-in-hand with our AEL centers to make the GED exam a successful experience for you!
