BASIC OPERATION 2 This section includes basic operating instructions for your A-dec vacuum instrumentation, which covers the HVE, saliva ejector, touchpad, and solids collector. For information on the operation and maintenance of A-dec s autoclavable syringe, please refer to the A-dec Syringes Instructions For Use (p/n 85.0680.00). Power There are two power source locations for the assistant s instrumentation: the power on/off button on the chair and the delivery system Master toggle. Power On/Off Button The power on/off button is located on the base of the chair (see Figure 5) and allows you to engage power or disengage power to the entire system. When the button is pressed in, the system has power. When the button is out, the system has no power. Figure 5. Chair Power Power On/Off Master Toggle The Master toggle is located on the right side of the delivery system and controls the utilities for the system, as well as other modules mounted to the chair (see Figure 6). Flip the toggle to turn the system on or off. Figure 6. Master Toggle Location Master Toggle 86.0603.00 Rev D 5

A-dec 500 Assistant s Instrumentation Instructions For Use NOTE To prolong the life of your equipment, turn off the Master toggle when the delivery system is not in use. Alternate Master Toggle Locations Depending on your configuration, the Master toggle may instead be located on the cuspidor, support center, or remote floor box. Vacuum Instrumentation How you activate the vacuum instrumentation depends on what type of vacuum system you have (see Table 2). Once the system vacuum is activated, the HVE and saliva ejector operate the same: simply lift the valve lever (see Table 2). Table 2. Vacuum Activation and Instrument Function Configuration HVE Activation Saliva Ejector Activation Central Vacuum Lift valve lever Lift valve lever Single-Operatory Vacuum; Auto- Electric Holders Lift instrument from holder, then lift valve lever Figure 7. HVE and Saliva Ejector Operation Lift instrument from holder, then lift valve lever Opening (for tip) Valve Valve Lever HVE Saliva Ejector The HVE and saliva ejector s quick-disconnect feature allows you to easily remove the valve body from the tubing for simple cleaning and sterilization. 6 86.0603.00 Rev D

Basic Operation Left/Right Conversion The HVE and saliva ejector can easily be converted for right- or left-handed operation. To convert the HVE or saliva ejector to one side or the other, push the valve out of the HVE body by pressing on the small diameter side. Rotate the valve 180, then push it back into place. Figure 8. HVE and Saliva Ejector Left/Right Conversion Auto-Electric Holders Your assistant s instrumentation may include optional auto-electric holders that provide vacuum on/off switching. When the HVE or saliva ejector is lifted from an auto-electric holder, a switch in the holder activates the vacuum pump. When the instrument is placed back in the holder, the switch turns the vacuum off. If both the HVE and saliva ejector have ribbed tubing, then you have auto-electric holders. Figure 9. A-dec 500 Assistant s Instrumentation Instructions For Use Positioning Your assistant s instrumentation is delivered from holders that pivot and rotate to improve positioning (see Figure 10). To independently adjust each holder position: 1. Pull holder slightly away from the adjacent one. 2. Rotate to the desired position and release (see Figure 10). Figure 10. Positioning Instrument Holders Step 1 Step 2 Touchpad A-dec 551 Assistant s Instrumentation includes an integrated touchpad that controls chair, cuspidor, and dental light functions. Your touchpad serves as a convenient handle, rotates for better visibility, and is either surf or white in color (see Figure 11). For complete instructions on touchpad operation, see the Instructions For Use that came with your delivery system. Figure 11. Standard Touchpads Standard Surf Standard White Note: Touchpad symbols are proprietary to A-dec Inc. 8 86.0603.00 Rev D

Basic Operation Solids Collector The solids collector helps prevent solids from entering the central vacuum system. To ensure proper suction from the central vacuum and maintain proper treatment room asepsis, discard and replace the solids collector screen at least twice a week (see Figure 12). TIP For replacement screens, contact your authorized A-dec dealer and reference Pinnacle p/n 5512. Figure 12. Replace Solids Collector Screen Solids Collector Cap Solids Collector Screen To replace the solids collector screen: 1. Turn off vacuum or open the HVE control valve. 2. Remove the solids collector cap. 3. Remove the solids collector screen. 4. Discard the screen according to your local regulations. CAUTION Do not empty the screen into your cuspidor. Doing so could plug the drain. 5. Insert new screen in the collector and replace the cap. 86.0603.00 Rev D 9

A-dec 500 Assistant s Instrumentation Instructions For Use Limit Switch If an object becomes lodged under the lower support arm as the chair is lowered, a limit switch will interrupt the chair base down motion and reverse the chair to prevent damage. NOTE Please follow standard patient care precautions when using the chair preset position functions. 10 86.0603.00 Rev D
