Who should become a Certified Ambulance Coder? The Certified Ambulance Coder (CAC) designation is primarily for ambulance billing personnel anyone involved in the ambulance revenue cycle. This includes those involved in: Reviewing patient care reports Selecting procedure codes, diagnosis/condition codes and modifiers Filing ambulance claims Payment, follow-up, appeals and review processes Internal claim auditing CAC certification is also recommended for billing office supervisors and managers, compliance officers, QA coordinators, and upper level management in an ambulance service, billing company or any other entity involved in ambulance billing or reimbursement. What does the curriculum cover? The CAC course covers all aspects of ambulance billing, coding and compliance. The course is organized to follow the claim process from pre-billing to coding to follow-up and compliance. The program begins by addressing the foundations necessary for proper ambulance billing, including anatomy, physiology and terminology, which is critical for billers and coders. The program also covers ambulance documentation, signature rules, billing forms and other vital pre-billing knowledge. The CAC course also addresses the fundamentals of ambulance coding, including procedure coding, ICD coding, proper use of transportation indicators, modifier selection and much more. The curriculum also covers the ambulance-specific billing rules of all major payers, including Medicare, Medicaid, managed care organizations, commercial insurers and others. The CAC program also addresses the nuts and bolts of the claim production process, including claim preparation and submission, posting and remittance, denials and appeals and collections. Finally, the course covers the major compliance areas that ambulance billers need to know, including preventing false claims, performing internal claim audits, HIPAA compliance and more. CAC Certification can be obtained in three convenient ways: 1 CAC Online Learn anytime Access the course 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from your office or the comfort of your home. A computer, the internet and an email address are the only requirements. Self-paced For students who prefer online learning instead of classroom learning. The online course is self-paced and is comprised of lessons, quizzes and the final exam. Students must complete the CAC Online course one year from date of first login.
