NOTE This addendum replaces all previous Sallie Mae Unique Fields addenda and is the only addendum that may be used with the for Release 5 processing. To avoid confusion, only changes in field definitions are shaded. All fields have new start positions. The following Layout table lists all of the fields contained in the unique fields area, along with each field's required status, start position, length, data type, justification, and padding. All field numbers and start positions indicate the appropriate sequence in the. A definition of each field is provided after the table. Field descriptions 167 UNIQUE LAYOUT VENDOR CODE A code (maximum of 4 characters) indicating the vendor that owns this unique fields layout. The vendor indicated must participate in the NCHELP CommonLine Network. This field contains the constant: SLM NOTE The software vendor identified here may or may not match the software product code identified in the header record of the. Some unique layouts will be used by multiple software vendors. This data is required. 168 UNIQUE LAYOUT IDENTIFIER CODE A 2-character code identifying this unique fields layout. This field contains the constant: 50 This data is required. 169 APPLICATION SOURCE CODE A 1-character code indicating the type of medium used to submit the loan application. E = Electronic P = Paper This data is required if available for responses to the Application Send File. Otherwise, fill the field with a space. 170 ENROLLMENT STATUS CODE A 1-character code indicating the student's current enrollment status. NOTE For application responses, you will receive this information in the (Enrollment Status Code [field 49], Response [@1] Detail Record[s]). This data is required if submitted in the Change Transaction Send File Unique Supplemental (@2) Detail Record. Otherwise, fill the field with a space. 171 PRODUCT CODE A 2-character code indicating a customized version of a loan product. This code assists in identifying the special fees, interest rates, and/or eligibility associated with loans originated under a customized loan product program. If this field is needed for processing, the school will be provided with its specific 2-character value(s). This code should be provided for every application that is submitted under the customized loan program to be assured of obtaining the appropriate interest rate and fee structure. This data is required if submitting an application for a customized program that requires the use of a product code value. Failure to provide the code may result in disbursement of loan funds with incorrect fees or interest rates. Fill the field with spaces if you are not providing this data. 172 EXTERNAL ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE SOURCE ID The source ID of the organization that originally provided an electronic signature indicator populated with a Y in a CommonLine file. Do not change the data in this field if it was previously populated. For guarantors, this is the 3-character code as shown in App Send Appendix A, Valid Guarantor ID s. For lenders and servicers, this is the 6-character code assigned by the U.S. Department of Education (ED). For schools, this is the 8-character ED-assigned school ID. The last 2 characters of the school ID identify the branch campus. For those organizations that do not have a numeric ED-assigned ID, this field may contain alphabetic (uppercase only) characters. NOTE If the source has not been assigned an ED ID, contact the NCHELP central office to determine the appropriate 3-, 6-, or 8-character value. This data is required and should not be changed if this field was previously populated. If this field was not previously populated, this data is required for all loan programs and processes when the source ID of the organization that provided an electronic signature indicator populated with a Y is different than the source ID (field 12, Header Record) contained in the. If this field was not previously populated, this data is required if the External Electronic Signature Source ID (field 172) is populated. Otherwise, the field is filled with spaces. 174 FILLER A field used to pad the record to the appropriate length. It is filled with spaces. 175 RECORD TERMINATOR The value identifying the end of the record. This field contains the constant: * This data is required.
