2 Thank you for choosing the TruFit Student Loan. We have partnered with Firstmark Services, a Nelnet company, specializing in privately funded education loans, to offer the TruFit Student Loan. Through Firstmark Services, we ensure secure access to your student records. Login Your access to student records is located at To log in to the website, enter your user id and password. If you do not have a user id and password, please call the Firstmark School Hotline at to sign up. If you enter an incorrect password more than three times, the system will lock you out. You will need to call the School Hotline to have your account unlocked. Please Note: After 90 days of inactivity, your account will be locked. Please call the Firstmark School Hotline at to have your account unlocked. After 6 months of inactivity your account will be deleted. Some helpful hints you should keep in mind in order to use the FirstDegree system: Your Internet Browser should be Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher Screen settings should be set to at least 800 X 600 pixels. You will need to have all cookies and JavaScript enabled/allowed. Please refer to your browser instructions on how to verify this setting. If you have any questions regarding FirstDegree, please contact Firstmark s School Hotline at Please remember the School Services team also offers priority service support, specifically responding to questions or issues regarding loan certifications, disbursements and general TruFit inquiries. Citizens School Services Team is available at , schoolservices@citizensbank.com. Charter One s School Services Team is available at , schoolservices@charterone.com. 1

3 Retrieve Student Info To review a borrower s information, you will need to enter their SSN and click Retrieve. If no borrowers are found that are attending the school(s) assigned to your login id, you will receive the message No loans found for that SSN. Once a borrower has been selected, you will have access to various sections of data: Demographic Info, Loan Info, Disbursement Info, and Pending Applications. You can either click on the boxes that are displayed on the right-hand side of the page, or you may select options from your menu on the left. Demographic Info To view a borrower s information, select this option. You will be able to view basic demographic information about the borrower, such as name, address, phone number, etc. This information is not editable by the school. 2

4 Loan Info To view a borrower s loan information, select Loan Info. A list of loans that the borrower has taken out for the school(s) assigned to your login id will show. The initial list presents some basic information about the loan clicking Select will display more detailed information. Disbursement Information To view a borrower s disbursement information, select this option. You will be presented with a list of loans that the borrower has taken out for the school(s) assigned to your login id. The initial list presents some basic information about the loan Clicking select will display more detailed information. 3

5 Cancel/Reduction/Reissue Changes While viewing the loan details, you will have the opportunity to submit a request to change that specific borrower s disbursement information. Clicking the displayed disbursement date will present you with a form to fill out to request a change. Completing the form and clicking submit will send a request to Firstmark Services to make appropriate changes. Maximum processing time is 3 business days. Please note that this option is not intended to replace normal disbursement processing procedures, such as CommonLine. It is provided as an alternative method, on a borrower-by-borrower basis. 4

6 Reports This is a complete list of reports available online but each report may not be available for all loan programs. For each report: If a header is underlined, you can re-sort the report by that criterion by clicking the header. Clicking Printable Version creates a black and white copy, suitable for printing. Clicking Export to Excel creates an Excel spreadsheet, which you can save for later manipulation. Any sort changes you have made are not reproduced. If the report allows you to provide a specific date for the report, you will be able to enter that information prior to viewing the report. Applications Pending Approval lists all loans in a Pre-Origination status CommonLine Loans Pending Certification Tailored for schools that participate in the Report CommonLine certification method. This will list all of the pertinent loan information the school needs to create a loan on their schoolbased software. Disbursement Summary lists disbursement date, gross and net amount, and a disbursement date range of the present month and 12 months in the past. 5

7 Funding Roster lists all loans that are scheduled for disbursement for specified date Loan Detail lists note date, note status, graduation date, next payment due date, and balance Loans Pending Certification lists all loans that are awaiting school certification Loans Pending Funding lists all loans pending disbursement Loans Pending Promissory Note lists all loans that have been certified, but need to have the promissory note returned. 6

8 Account Info (Only available for those participating in online certification) For those schools participating in online certification, you will have the ability to change your password once logged in by clicking on Account Info from the menu on the left, entering a new password and clicking update. Your new password must contain 8-16 characters and include both letters and numbers. Certify Loans If you have been set up with the necessary access to FirstDegree to certify/deny applications for your students, please follow the instructions below to assist you in the certification/denial process. After you have logged in, click on the Certify Loans link on the menu. 7

9 Upon clicking the link, you will be brought to the Certify Loans page. Next, click on the Certify Loan button to open the School Certification page. SSN Search Enter a SSN and click Search to view all loans needing certification for this specific borrower. Click Show All Pending to view all the loans pending certification for your school. 8

10 Search List The search list displays loan(s) that need certification. Each loan will have the following information is displayed: - Student SSN - Student Name - Date of Application - Loan Status - School Term - Requested Loan Amount Clicking on Select will bring up the certification page to enter certification information. 9

11 For Schools that are certifying using the web: If your school has chosen to use the web to certify applications, you can do so by selecting a note that needs to be certified, which will take you to the certification page where relevant information can be filled out. If you choose to deny a note, that option is also available via the web. Details on screens used in the actual certification process are below: Certification Page The Certification page is where the loan certification information is entered. Simply enter the loan information and click Certification. Once this has been done this loan will no longer appear in the list of loans on the SSN search page. This page also has a link to the denial page. The denial page would be used if you do not want to certify the borrower s loan. No information needs to be entered on this page to deny a loan. The Return to Search link will return you to the Search List page. The Store Field Values function gives you the option of saving values in select fields for the duration of your session*. To save values simply enter them into the appropriate text boxes, and select to store the field values by clicking in the empty check box. Once you click on Certify, the values that are entered in savable fields (identified with an * ) will be saved. When you click to certify the next loan, within the same session, the saved values will automatically appear. If you would like to change the values that are currently saved, simply change the appropriate value and click in the empty check box again before clicking Certification. *A session is ended if it expires (sits idle for too long), when you log out, or when the web browser is closed. 10

12 Denial Page This page allows for the denial of the certification of a loan. A drop down box allows for the selection of a reason the loan certification is being denied. Select a reason from the list that is displayed and click Deny. Once this has been done this loan will no longer appear in the list of loans on the SSN search page. The Return to Search link will return you to the Search List page. No letters are generated when a school denies certification of a loan. 11

13 For Schools that are certifying using CommonLine: If your school has chosen to use CommonLine to certify applications, the process is fairly straightforward. When an application has been signed by all credit applicants, a Certification Request is sent. Schools can use their CommonLine software to certify the loans electronically. A school that has signed up to certify via CommonLine can view pending certifications online; however, the school cannot certify the loans online. The web interface does not interact with CommonLine, and thus, if your school has chosen to certify through CommonLine, you will only be able to view (or potentially deny certification for) the pending loans. Details on the Denial functionality are below: Denial Page This page allows for the denial of the certification of a loan. A drop down box allows for the selection of a reason the loan certification is being denied. Select a reason from the list that is displayed and click Deny. Once this has been done this loan will no longer appear in the list of loans on the SSN search page. The Return to Search link will return you to the Search List page. No letters are generated when a school denies certification of a loan. 12

14 For Schools that are certifying using CommonLine Report Method: If your school has chosen to use the CommonLine Report method to certify applications, the process is a combination of Web certification and CommonLine certification. An will direct you to login to where a report titled CommonLine Loans Pending Certification will be available for you to utilize. The report will list all of the pertinent loan information you need to initiate the loan on your school-based software. After the loan has been created on your school-based software, you will need to send Firstmark Services the CommonLine application send file (@1A file) in order for the note to be updated with the certification on Firstmark Services STAR system. Loans can still be denied online via FirstDegree at Denial Page This page allows for the denial of the certification of a loan. A drop down box allows for the selection of a reason the loan certification is being denied. Select a reason from the list that is displayed and click Deny. Once this has been done this loan will no longer appear in the list of loans on the SSN search page. The Return to Search link will return you to the Search List page.
