Prophet The Hebrew word for prophet is nabhi which means an inspired person or someone who speaks on behalf of another person, not from his own influence or will; but rather to speak the will of God. OT prophets were special agents of Jehovah, raised up and sent on mission, to incite duty, to convict sin, to call for repentance, to instruct kings, and to announce judgment against nasons. The prophets received their messages from God through visions, dreams, and trances. Another Hebrew word used for prophet is ro eh, which means seer.
Role of Prophets Forthtelling Insight into the will of God obedience. Telling God s truth to their own generason, poinsng out evils of the day and calling people to repent. They warned God s people, while the covenant brought many privileges, it also brought responsibility to righteousness, jussce, and holiness Foretelling Insight into the plan of God predicjve of coming judgment. God revealed the future to the prophets; somejmes the near future, somejmes a distant future. They predicted coming judgment, deliverance, and events relajng to the Messiah and His kingdom.
