Imagine the Possibilities U.K. GRADUATE CAREERS AT JACOBS

Introduction Choosing where to start your career can be challenging, especially when there are so many possibilities available. Learning of course doesn t stop just because your time at university has come to an end. At Jacobs we are a learning institution. An example of this in practise is Jacobs Future which is a network run by employees locally, nationally and globally bringing together people in the early stages of their career. Joining Jacobs as a graduate means you will be mentored, encouraged, empowered and asked to join your local training group to embark on our established graduate development programmes. Most importantly you will be encouraged to start to share your ideas as well as learn from others. So if you are looking to join a growing organisation that will take your development and learning further, you don t need to look further than Jacobs. Bob Duff Group Vice President, United Kingdom 1

U.K. Graduate Development Programme Jacobs has been developing graduates for decades. In the United Kingdom we have more than 700 graduates currently going through our development programme which has been shaped to build graduate s careers alongside professional chartership programmes. Designed with your personal development in mind, the Graduate Development Programme (GDP) is a comprehensive and versatile programme which is applicable to all graduates in their first few years of professional development. The U.K. GDP also complements the Initial Professional Development schemes of the various Institutions in which our graduates strive to become professionally qualified (e.g. the ICE, IChemE). A significant part of this programme is the acquisition of key skills which are important to the business, as well as to individual trainees. When you join you will immediately be part of our Jacobs Future Network which operates globally and from where you will connect to colleagues like yourself starting out on their career. It is your business network. Join Jacobs and be part of a team who contributes to the projects which make a difference to everyone s lives. Catriona Vice President Operations Energy, Waste & Water 3

Mentoring at Jacobs How do I get started? HOLLY I have been really lucky to have excellent mentors throughout my career so far and so it s great to be a mentor myself now to Janay. My mentors are based in multiple locations, however all of them kindly offer their support and advice when needed. I have been at a few crossroads in my career so far where I have known that I want to do something different, a new challenge, however I didn t know what or how to get there. This is when my mentors really came into their own, offering advice and guidance on what they believe would be best for me and my career. These mentors have enabled me to have such a diverse and varied career so far. I do not believe there is any age limit to being a mentee and having a mentor I truly value my mentors and will be continuing to seek out their thoughts and guidance. JANAY I have been working with Jacobs since September 2014 within the Energy, Waste & Water business unit with a major Utilities client. I have a degree in Physical Geography and my previous experience has included working for a flow monitoring company in a site based role with six months experience in project management. On joining I was immediately placed on secondment into a major Utilities client office working as solutions engineer. I was actually sponsored by the company through university and completed three summer placements with them. After graduation I decided to join Jacobs for the opportunities offered. Holly Integrated Delivery U.K. Operations Lead, Birmingham 4

HOLLY By having strong mentors, it has shaped what kind of mentor I am and want to be for others. It enabled me to offer the same support that pushed me to take on roles that I didn t think would either be feasible or possible in my career I want my mentees to do the same. Even if I don t have answers to their questions, I am able to either seek guidance from my mentors or search for the answer myself. JANAY I always considered Holly as a mentor and so I was delighted when she agreed to mentor me for the GDP. Holly is also my line manager and in this role she is really supportive and encouraging. She goes out of her way to make sure that we get time to meet up and discuss my development and to make sure that I am happy. She ensures that I push myself into doing things more challenging to facilitate my development. Holly is brilliant with all the graduates, providing support whenever required. Holly is very well known within the Jacobs family and can always point us in the right direction of who to contact for any information. HOLLY Whichever role you take whether it is the mentee or the mentor, it is a great way to grow and learn about yourself, your career, the company and dealing with people. Holly worked in the same department as me and very soon became someone I could easily talk to about anything that worried me or even just a chat. Janay Graduate Engineer, Shifnal JACOBS FUTURE NETWORK 2010 Launch of the Jacobs Future Network. Connecting people with 0 5 years of workplace experience. David GRADUATE CIVIL ENGINEER WORK LOCATION: Edinburgh DEGREE: MEng Civil Engineering with International Studies My first project with Jacobs was a site supervision role on the Queensferry (Forth Replacement) Crossing project for Transport Scotland, where I was involved in monitoring site works and a number of other project management tasks. As a Consultant Civil Engineer, it is very important for your development to get experience on site and I am very grateful to get this so early in my career. One of the reasons I joined Jacobs is the potential to travel. With offices around the world there is the opportunity to work with teams in other countries and to do placements abroad. The office also organises social events to bring together the teams. Overall Jacobs has been a great start to my career allowing me to progress with a good working atmosphere and a supportive development structure. David Graduate Civil Engineer Site Work 6

Emily GRADUATE PROCESS ENGINEER WORK LOCATION: Westlakes, Cumbria DEGREE: MEng Chemical Engineering with Oil & Gas Technology I took part in an Engineering Education Scheme during my first year of sixth form. I was working with two chemical engineers which enabled me to learn more about the engineering industry and chemical engineering in particular. I really enjoyed this work and decided that my next step would be a degree in Chemical Engineering with Oil and Gas Technology from Heriot Watt University. My current placement is in a client design office working on the First Generation Magnox Storage Pond (FGMSP) Retrievals projects at Sellafield Limited. My daily work includes calculations, drawings and documentation. I am involved with the Jacobs Inclusion Programme, Jacobs Future Network, STEM activities and the local training and development committee. This gives me a good mix of non-technical objectives to work on every week. This breadth is what really attracted me to Jacobs. Emily Graduate Process Engineer STEM 7

Jo GRADUATE GEO-ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST WORK LOCATION: Manchester DEGREE: MESci Geology and Physical Geography I graduated from the University of Liverpool in July 2013, where I studied an MESci in Geology and Physical Geography. Since joining Jacobs I have been involved in several projects working as a Geo-Environmental Scientist in market sectors such as Utilities, Rail and our growing Highways business. I have also recently become Assistant Project Manager on a small residential remediation project. Several months into graduate life at Jacobs, I successfully co-founded our regional Jacobs Future Network (JFN) Chapter, which today reaches out to over 240 young professionals throughout the North West of England. We organise professional presentations and seminars from Jacobs Senior Management and external industry professionals. Jo Graduate Geologist Jacobs Future Network 8

From feasibility of a tunnel and option selection stages, through outline and detailed design stages, monitoring and inspection of existing tunnels to ensure they re fit for purpose throughout their design life. One of the great benefits about working at Jacobs is the diverse projects you can get involved in across the infrastructure sector. I am currently on the Graduate Development Programme that Jacobs offers. It identifies key skills that you ll require as a good professional engineer, breaks them down into achievable objectives and training is provided to help you meet these objectives. Shaun Graduate Tunnelling Engineer Infrastructure 9

Niamh GRADUATE MECHANICAL ENGINEER WORK LOCATION: Glasgow DEGREE: BEng Mechanical Engineering I chose Jacobs after researching the company and learning more about the core values. I graduated from university and worked for a year in Ireland in the Biomedical sector but I knew it wasn t for me. I applied for a role in Jacobs knowing that it was a global company which could offer me many different opportunities with the ability to connect with expertise from around the world. With these opportunities, experience and support, I am currently working towards chartership with IMechE. Niamh Graduate Mechanical Engineer Global Projects 10

Pramod GRADUATE TRANSPORT PLANNER WORK LOCATION: Reading DEGREE: MEng Civil Engineering Whilst at university, I always wanted to join a company where I could get involved in widely challenging and extremely diverse projects and potentially work on a project where I could one day point at it and be able to say that I was involved on that project. To date, I have been involved in numerous transport modelling projects for various local authorities. David GRADUATE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER WORK LOCATION: Warrington DEGREE: BEng (Honours) Electrical Engineering I am a graduate electrical engineer within the water department currently on secondment with a major utilities company working on site. I was previously located at Jacobs Salford office where I had worked on several projects across the energy sector. I initially completed an apprenticeship as an electrician and later discovered that I wanted to pursue a role in engineering. In my final year at university I applied for a role at Jacobs. I had previously worked on Jacobs sites as an electrician and was impressed by the way the project was ran and also the knowledge of the Jacobs team on site. David Graduate Electrical Engineer Apprentice 12

Claire SENIOR PROCESS ENGINEER WORK LOCATION: Winnersh DEGREE: MEng Chemical Engineering I really enjoyed science and maths at school and it was there that my interest in its practical applications in the modern business and social environment was developed. A key milestone has been building my leadership skills to enable me to lead a team within three years of joining the company. Having recently achieved promotion to a senior process engineer, I am now working as lead commissioning engineer on a U.K. nuclear project. My experience and professional development at Jacobs has allowed me to achieve my chartered status with the IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) and I am now looking forward to further developing my skills to include project engineering and management.
