Case Studies As part of a Lake Superior binational project, Glynn demonstrated the ability to assimilate and summarize information in a way that was accurate, timely and responsible. He also was sensitive to the needs of the many different provincial, state, federal and tribal agencies who were contributing to the project. Carri Lohse-Hanson, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Environment Canada: Great Lakes Section Basin Chemical Milestones (two contracts) Lake Superior The Chemical Committee of the Lake Superior Binational Program is composed of members from various institutions from Canada and the United States. It develops a chemicals milestones report every five years to evaluate the status of ecosystem objectives for Lake Superior Basin compared to the 1990 baseline. We helped coordinate Committee activities, and drafted and edited various sections of the 2010 Lake Superior Basin Milestone Report. We analyzed the binational contaminants emissions inventory for trends and gaps focusing on the Canadian perspective, and reviewed all sections (Canadian and U.S.) of the report. We reported on actions or accomplishments associated with reductions of chemicals of concern in Lake Superior Basin. Categories included: Overall Reductions; Fuel Combustion; Landfills, Trash Burning & Incineration; Metals & Mining; Pesticide Inventory; PCB Inventory; and, Emerging Chemicals. We also reviewed activities, projects, policies, regulations and other instruments that supported reduction or inventory of chemicals. We liaised with and coordinated, integrated, or critically evaluated input from the Canadian engineering consultant, Committee members and various agencies in order to advance the report, via a series of transboundary committee/agency reviews, to a draft for public review. Visit our website for links to download the report (118 pages + 176 pages in appendices) from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency website. 8

Case Studies Fisheries & Oceans Canada (DFO): Habitat Management Program Status of the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan (two contracts) We assisted DFO by preparing annual reports for two consecutive years on the status of the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan (FCSAP) program in Central & Arctic Region in support of program reporting requirements to National Headquarters. These projects involved liaising with Department staff to collect, collate and analyze information, and/or identify science issues, staffing/training, and program management priorities. In the first year, we also assisted Central & Arctic Region in doing mid-term reporting, as well as prepared a regional annual summary report that described status and highlighted priority issues and recommendations for managing the FCSAP program in Central & Arctic Region (i.e., a report to assist in program management). In addition to the annual report, in the second year, we prepared a summary of program challenges and recommendations to assist with the FCSAP Expert Support Role program in Central & Arctic Region. Visit www.gomesconsulting.com for more case studies and downloadable reports. 9
