REVIEW ON IMPROVED VEHICLE MONITORING SYSTEM WITH ARRIVAL TIME PREDICITION Arti Sharma 1, Ashish Agham 1, Rajeev N. Verma 3, Gauri Kokate 3 1 BE Student, 3 Professor, Nagpur Institute of Technology Nagpur-441501, India ABSTRACT: Vehicle tracking is an important issue in intelligent transportation systems since it can be used to increase safety, convenience and efficiency in driving. Tracking of buses while moving on highway is crucial task. A person patiently waiting for a bus may want to scrutinize about the position of the current location of the bus. Phone discussion is not always feasible due to traffic troubles. Moreover it involves variant cost due to communication media that are calls and messages services over cell phones and the person in the bus may get exasperated if he get numerous calls from people boarding that bus. Mobile based Bus Monitoring System provides a solution to this problems which helps anyone to retrieve the location of the bus without calling and disturbing the person travelling in the bus. The people boarding the bus and the coordinators of the bus should have a device as android driven smart phones with internet connectivity. The Global standard for Mobile(GSM) in cellular phone is supported in area following in backing by Global Positioning System(GPS) to reports to transport area information again to the severs. Continuously, this shows where transports on a guide and evaluation the entry or starting time and separation with reference to holding up stop by utilizing propelled gimmicks of Internet. The function of system is to provide an economical, flexible and reliable system of bus monitoring. Keywords: Global Positioning system (GPS), Global standard for mobile (GSM), Vehicle Monitoring System, Android, PHP, HTTP. [1] INTRODUCTION Nowadays, vehicle tracking concept is well defined and is frequently used. The result of a lot of research efforts which were invested in developing tracking components and ideas like having information about the nearest street a vehicle can provide a driver in driving safe and making driving more safely convenient. Different sources of information can be available for use by vehicles. Manually tracking the bus which the user wants to board is always not easy. A person continuously disturbing the persons in bus calling and messaging to enquire the status of the bus. The vehicles following systems will be composed to support organization with huge number of 1
Review on Improved Vehicle Monitoring System with Arrival Time Prediction automobile and a few utilization purposes. More and more buses get GPS System, but while the device are great for helping the guide. However maintance of GPS Equipment is a hectic task and also code once written cannot be modified easily and they re subject to technical issues that can make them practically useless. The principle point of monitoring system is to locate the vehicle s current area and predicted time. Gathering the location and time of individual vehicles (buses) has become essential for many Intelligent Transportation System. So to carry out efficient transportation in nearby future, we need smart bus observance system which provides real-time data for tracking many of buses efficiently. The system uses the most known technology like GPS. The GPS (Global Positioning System) on bus and user side is used to take the current longitude and latitude bus and user. On bus and user side the GPS module is implemented. The bus side GPS module locates its longitude and latitude which are the current coordinates and with it speed of the bus is send it to central database periodically for further series and analysis. The bus side module is supposed to be send the current bus location after static interval time. And this coordinates information continuously updated in database where as the client side GPS module is used to find out current location of bus and calculate prediction time according to the speed of the Bus. The system broadcast through internet using GPRS. Google maps are used for graphical representation of location of bus on city map. The system will uses already stored map of city with its various bus stops and their coordinates. This map can be used as preliminary version of city which is use to compare and then locate the bus location on city map. This system can be made accessible to public to access as mobile application. The application can be installed by user for real time location of bus. The system will accomplish request for database on user s requirement. The mobile application can access the latest longitude and latitude from database and plot them on Google Map for specified bus on user request. The database is analysed, maintained and stored by central authority. This database is used to service the user in real time. [2] TECHNIQUES [2.1] GPS TECHNOLOGY GPS Technology [2] Only fully functional Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is the Global Positioning System (GPS). The GPS uses a cluster of related things of between 24 and 32 Medium Earth Orbit satellites that transmit precise microwave signals that activate GPS receivers to determine their location, speed, direction, and time. A GPS receiver receives the signals from at least 3 satellites to calculate distance and uses a triangulation technique to compute its 2 dimension (latitude and longitude) position or at least 4 satellites to compute its 3 dimension (latitude, longitude and altitude) position. 2
Figure: 1. GPS Receiver GPS based vehicle tracking navigation system is implemented in this paper. This is done by taking the information of the vehicle like location, distance, etc. by using Android device GPS and GSM. Instate of GPS Receiver, Installation of GPS Receiver is costly. [2.2] Vehicle Tracking using Android Application The system is composed of 3 main components: a client-side application which will run on GPS activated mobile handset; GPS activate mobile handset embedded bus which sends its coordinate after every fixed interval time and the main server i.e. central application which will support and interact with various clients to provide service to user requests. The system is designed to facilitate the process of real time tracking of bus. The bus module consists of a GPS enable mobile phone. [1] [2.3] Vehicle Monitoring using Php server The bus module consists of a GPS enable mobile phone which is programmed to obtain its coordinates using GPS chip present in mobile device, and then send it to central dedicated server. The mobile device is programmed such that it start obtaining its current location as bus start and send this coordinates with timestamp to server. The program calls process repeatedly after some interval time. When the bus module gets coordinates i.e. longitude and altitude then this coordinate with timestamp is compared with the previous one and if there is difference then these coordinates sends to server over GPRS network (internet). The format for location details to be send to server is ID, longitude, latitude, timestamp. Here ID is taken for identifying the each bus among the various buses. Each bus has given one unique identification number. [3] Functionalities provided by the system: Route Information Bus Information 3

Overview of system [3] CONCLUSION In this paper, we have reviewed a various existing techniques of vehicle tracking and monitoring system. We have studied various technologies, algorithms and methods for tracking and monitoring system. Every system has its own importance; different authors have tried different methods based on applications. Still there is scope to optimize different methodologies and algorithm to make system more users friendly and wide application areas. For future enhancement, we may develop a vehicle tracking and monitoring system using GPS, GSM/GPRS with high speed processor. The system will have latest technology and optimized algorithm with moderate cost. The system may focus on accurate arrival time prediction and real time position of vehicle. The system can be installed inbuses, cars and trucks.
