Connecting people, companies, and organizations in the San Gabriel Valley MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO It is my pleasure to provide the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership annual update for fiscal year 2011 2012. On behalf of the Board of Directors and the Partnership staff we would like to thank Glenn Wallmark and the Executive Committee for their leadership last year. PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY Cynthia Kurtz President & CEO The four top policy issues for San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership were: Local Economic Development CEQA Modernization Job Creation in the San Gabriel Valley Reliable Safe Water Supply These priorities were based on a survey of San Gabriel Valley businesses and organizations and used to create the 2012 Public Policy Platform which guided the Partnership's policy positions for the year. The Partnership voiced positions on over 40 pieces of legislation and projects that affect the San Gabriel Valley economy. Local Economic Development Meeting Legislative Advocacy Trip to Sacramento
MARKETING THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY The Partnership completed a new Regional Marketing Plan based on what businesses said were the SGV's strongest assets. The Plan will be used in an advertising campaign aimed at attracting and retaining businesses to the SGV. The advertisements will also be made available to regional brokers, Chambers of and cities to use in their marketing campaigns. Marketing Campaign Ads BUSINESS ASSISTANCE During these tough economic times, business assistance services and outreach are playing a critical role in retaining the SGV job base. Business Assistance work included direct in the field outreach to over 1,000 SGV businesses resulting in over 225 business consultations representing over 17,704 employees. These consultations connected businesses to valuable economic development programs and services to help them sustain operations and retain jobs. Ten businesses took advantage of the special business assistance resources resulting in retaining 479 jobs in the San Gabriel Valley. NEW MEMBERS The Partnership welcomed 15 new companies and organizations as members during the year. They include companies involved in retail, finance, education, manufacturing and non profit organizations demonstrating the rich diversity of the San Gabriel Valley economy.
