1. What did you like about this program? I loved most of the teachers. One was not that great but I was informed she will not be back so that is good for the new students. I liked how the assignments helped the students connect. I liked all the volunteer work we had to do. I learned so much during the program and am so thankful for that. Ann Lichliter is a great mentor and was always there for us. It was an interesting to me to learn all the topics, I think it is great in a sense that it is easy to do a two plus two with another school. The course competency requirements were met, and easily put into play in the real world. I enjoyed the 2 field experiences because it gave me a chance to work with 2 different populations. I also think it's good that the curriculum was made to transfer into a 4 year social work degree because it's cheaper for me to do 2 years at a technical college and then transfer. I enjoyed that there was a smaller class size and we had one instructor who we were able to contact if we had any questions at any time over our program. I also really enjoyed that there were two different field placements. I noticed myself change through the different placements and it gave me a better idea of what area I would like to work in. I liked the small class size for more one on one work. I also enjoyed the instructor as she had a variety of expeerience that should could relate to with the subject that we were learning. Ann Lichliter was very open, understanding, and a wonderful instructor. I liked the classes and how it prepared me for the real world. I also liked the field experiences. I feel that the field experiences helped me gain contacts, references, and gain an understanding of what social work really is. I really enjoyed the classes for this program. Aside from the general education classes, all of the classes were extremely interesting and helpful for the profession that we're going in to. The instructors were good, too. The field experiences were the most beneficial part of this program. I'm so happy we had the opportunity to complete two of them. As I continue my education, I feel like I'm a step ahead of the game. 7

2. What would you change about this program? Everything I would change is being changed like the teacher who is not coming back and adding a human biology class. More structure within teachers, seemed like some teachers were very un-organized Nothing. For the program there was specific classes related to different fields that we might possibly go into. We had Gerontology, Intro to DisAbilities, Addictions, and Public Health. I really feel there should have been a class related to children and teens. For me and I think a few other people in my class that environment is where we will most likely want to work so to have a class about just child development or working with troubled teens would have been beneficial. Also I understand that we were kind of the test class to see what worked and didn't work. I think there are a lot of things that could be smoothed out with the flow of classes and really making sure the new teachers are prepared for the class but flexible enough to know that there might be some changes. I also do think there needed to be early intervention with some new instructors that I didnt think was actually happening after multipule complaints from students. If this was happening I think there should have been someone sitting in on a few of the classes to see where the problems where actually coming from. I would change the outline for some of the courses such as gerontology and public health as they repeated other material in other classes. attendance policies. I would change the fact that there were so many night classes. I realize it varies each semester but the past two years I was in the program, there were quite a bit of night classes. It was also a struggle not having Human Biology and wanting to transfer after this program. It was a setback for getting into a social work program at a university. 7 3. As a result of this program: I have learned effective communication skills. nor 0 0 0 1 6 7

4. Provide any comments you have on effective communication skills you learned. The program also allows you to put them into practice. Can tell in my field placement that I have learned the rules and the "lingo" for the human service field THis was a very big topic that we worked on over the course of two years. I have learned to communicate as a professional over the phone, in person, and electronically. I have also learned to speak well in group settings, especially when giving a presentation. This program has really boosted my confidence. Although motivational interviewing is difficult and I dislike it, it's important for the profession. More repetition through each semester after the interviewing class would've been helpful just to keep practicing. 6 5. As a result of this program: I am able to apply mathematical concepts. nor 0 0 2 3 2 7 6. Provide any comments you have on mathematical concepts you learned. I strongly dislike math. I do not feel I have applied anything other than basic math concepts. I do not think math should be a requirement for this program. 3

7. As a result of this program: I learned how to transfer social and natural science theories into practical applications. nor 0 0 1 1 5 7 8. Provide any comments you have on transferring social and natural science theories into practical applications. Seems like thats all we did the whole time. Very helpful. I have noticed a huge change in how I interact with people and even just in my personal life I pick up on the fact that I have using skills I have learned through this program. Self-determination is a big one. I've tried to empower my clients and provide them with encouragement to better their lives. I honestly can't remember specific names of theories at this point, but I know the steps to take for theories to be put into use. 4 9. As a result of this program: I learned critical thinking skills. nor 0 0 0 2 5 7 10. Provide any comments you have on critical thinking skills you learned. During my field experiences sometimes I had to be a quick thinker and come up with solutions in a fast manner. This is especially true in emergency-type situations. I have also come up with ideas and implemented plans into my own programs throughout the field experience and class. Seeing the big picture and being aware of the world around you is extremely important.

2 11. As a result of this program: I have learned to use technology effectively. nor 0 0 0 4 3 7 12. Provide any comments you have on what you learned about using technology effectively. Most assignments are due in blackboard. I've also had to use computers and electronically communicate through e-mail with field supervisors. This program was made up of a number of presentations and paper writing so you got pretty good at dealing with technology. 3 13. As a result of this program: I have learned to value myself and work ethically with others in a diverse population. nor 0 0 0 0 7 7

14. Provide any comments you have on what you learned about valuing yourself and working ethically with others in a diverse population. That's what this program is all about. I think this program was really good at teaching to work with everyone and not to judge people. I've seen how my attitude has directly effected clients. I've watched people gain confidence just by how I treat them. My time and how I spend it can be extremely important especially if I put effort into what I do with them. This program gave me a whole different outlook on others and life in general. It really taught me to value other people for who they are and to not have prejudgments. 4 15. As a result of this program: I am able to make decisions that incorporate the importance of sustainability. nor 0 0 0 2 5 7 16. Provide any comments you have on what you learned about incorporating the importance of sustainability in decisions you make. My projects and parties that I planned were extremely successful. Through field study, I have seen myself be successful at decision making along with the other tasks listed. 3

17. As a result of this program, I learned to: uphold ethical and legal conduct in professional settings. nor 0 0 0 0 7 7 18. Provide any comments you have about learning this I have learned to let my guard down and not hold as many judgments. Ethical standards was stressed drastically through this program. I am confident that I am professional enough to uphold these standards. 3 19. As a result of this program, I learned to: collaborate effectively with human service professionals, partnering agencies, and clients. nor 0 0 0 1 6 7 20. Provide any comments you have about learning this I have learned how to be extremely professional inside and OUTSIDE school, my field placement, and current job. You can practice skills for the real world all you want in a classroom setting, field experience is where all of this can be applied and perfected.

3 21. As a result of this program, I learned to: apply interviewing skills with clients. nor 0 0 0 2 5 7 22. Provide any comments you have about learning this I have learned how to talk and listen to clients. 2 23. As a result of this program, I learned to: demonstrate a commitment to developing cultural competence. nor 0 0 0 2 5 7 24. Provide any comments you have about learning this I have learned to let all judgments pass. 2

25. As a result of this program, I learned to: demonstrate knowledge of skillset to work with vulnerable and disenfranchised individuals/populations. nor 0 0 0 1 6 7 26. Provide any comments you have about learning this Learning about the variety of populations out there that I didn't even realize or have much knowledge of before, was a huge eye-opener. 2 27. As a result of this program, I learned to: access community resources for the benefit of individuals and families. nor 0 0 0 1 6 7 28. Provide any comments you have about learning this I have many different resources that I would have never thought of before entering this program. When working with clients they can say something to me and right there I can give them resources of who or what organizations would possibly be able to help them. If I do not know of any at the time then I am able to think about it for a little while and let them know the next time I see them. Our portfolio that we created in Community Resources class was and will continue to be helpful in accessing resources throughout the community and providing my clients with contacts to those resources if needed.

3 29. As a result of this program, I learned to: examine the history, nature, and scope of human services and the role family, community, and human services plays in society and the economy. nor 0 0 0 2 5 7 30. Provide any comments you have about learning this 1

31. CONCLUSION - Please use this space to share any other feedback, comments, or suggestions about your experience at Western Technical College. I'm really sad to be leaving, but as the first cohort to be graduating, I'm glad we could leave some things behind as well such as the Human Services Club. I'll never forget this time I spent in the program. Loved the environment and the program, it was a very fun program to be in and I feel like I not only learned a lot about the the field itself, but have also grown as a person and I know that this is what I want to do in life. I think this was a great program and I truly enjoyed working with Ann, she is an awesome teacher and I will miss her! I really enjoyed being here at Western. I learned a lot about myself while here and I made connections with people that I hope last after graduation. This program is a great program and it made up for my bad experience when I first attempted a different program through Western. This was a wonderful program! It has really helped prepare me for the real world. I will continue to give much credit of my knowledge and experience thus far in my education to this program. Although it's a stepping stone in my education, I have accomplished so much and can't thank Ann and the other instructors enough for the support and information they've given me. I've met so many people - peers, professionals, community members, etc. that will continue to act as references for me as I grow into a professional. 7
