It was founded in 1920 as the American School, but the name was officially changed in 1970 to reflect its diverse student population. ISM is accredited by both the U.S.-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). ISM is certified to award both the traditional U.S. High School and International Baccalaureate Diplomas. ISM students represent some 75 different nations with approximately 32% North American, 15% European, 50% Asian- Pacific and the remaining 3% from other countries. ISM is a college preparatory school where instruction is in English, apart from modern language courses. We aim to prepare our students for higher education institutions around the world with the majority of our students attending universities in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Japan, Korea and Australia. Application Practices at ISM: Class Rank International School Manila does not rank its students. Limit of Applications Students at ISM are strictly limited to a maximum of ten college and university applications. Activities: ISSBA The Executive Student Council serves as an umbrella organization overseeing the activities and direction of ten councils. These subsidiary councils oversee six cultural clubs, six honor societies, six interest clubs, three fine arts clubs, five publications, five event committees and nine service clubs and partners. IASAS (www.iasas.asia) ISM has participated in sports, drama, dance, forensics and debate, music, art, MUN and math competitions and exchanges as a part of the IASAS organization since 1984. Policy of Limitations: Students at ISM are limited in the number of school leadership roles they may hold during a given school year. No student may hold more than two such positions in the various organizations on campus. Service Learning: Requirements All students, regardless of grade or course options, must complete a minimum of 25 hours of community service per year to graduate from ISM. This total can be achieved through ICARE and volunteer work on Saturday. ICARE All students engage in the ICARE service activity for four days in December in Metro Manila or at a provincial site. The experience allows students to contribute positively to their community and to learn more about the Philippines and Filipino culture. Over the four years in high school, if possible, a student should attend four different sites, experience a wide range of activities and work with a range of faculty and students. Counselor Memberships: As members of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), its overseas affiliate (OACAC) and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), ISM counselors are bound by the ethical practices of these organizations.
-2015 Calendar: The -2015 school year comprises 180 days divided into two semesters. The first semester begins on August 7 th and concludes on December 12 th.
