Proposal for Course Prefix & Number Change University of Maryland at College Park, Maryland Cybersecurity Leadership track within the Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies Robert H. Smith School of Business Rationale: The Cybersecurity Leadership track within the Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies was approved by PCC on June 29, 2012. Following this approval, some of the stakeholders met with our contacts within the Office of the Bursar and it was brought to our attention that the PCC approved course numbers would present billing issues for registered students. BULM, ENRE and PUAF courses were all billed at different rates and in some instances different rate based on section codes. In an effort to reduce any future billing challenges, the decision was made to create new course numbers. The BMGT course prefix already existed, but had not been used by the Smith School in a few years. Using this existing course prefix was the simplest way to get new course numbers approved in a short period of time. The grid below represents the courses approved by Graduate PCC and the corresponding VPAC approved course numbers. Attached are letters from the School of Engineering and the School of Public Policy that indicate their support of renaming their courses with the BMGT course prefix. Course Course Number from PCC Proposal VPAC Approved Course Number Systems & Design Thinking BULM 758L BMGT 702 ICT Supply Chain Risk Management Information Technology Acquisitions in the Federal Government BULM 744 BMGT 703 PUAF 689F BMGT 704 Cybersecurity Technology ENRE 684 BMGT 705 Capstone Cybersecurity Leadership BULM 758P BMGT 706

JAMBS CLARK SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING August 30, 2012 To:VPAC The Maryland Cybersecurity Center and the A. James Clark School of Engineering are pleased to partner with the Robert H. Smith SChool of Business to provide content for the Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies in Cybersecurity Leadership in line with the MOU dated April 11, 2012. I support Smith's decision to label the Cybersecurity Technology course for the above Certificate as a BMGT course. This will differentiate the Cybersecurity Technology course within the Certificate from ENRE 684, offered within the School of Engineering and also taught by me. The differentiation is important as, although much of the content is similar, the price point, scheduling, admissions criteria and timeline for the Certificate course will be distinct from ENRE 684. The Maryland Cybersecurity Center, Clark and Smith are working closely on the launch of the Certificate and trust that VPAC can support this proposal to reduce confusion for administrators, faculty and students.
