3 PROPOSAL FOR REVISED CURRICULUM FOR PROGRAM UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND AT COLLEGE PARK, MARYLAND MASTER OF HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (MHA) SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH Award Offered: MHA in Health Services Administration
4 I. OVERVIEW and RATIONALE A. Overview This proposal is for modifications to the approved curriculum leading to Masters in Health Services Administration. The proposed changes are as follows: Require two new courses: Public Health Research Methods (HLSA 775) and Current Topics in Health Services (HLSA 709). Change HLSA 760 (Financial Management) from a requirement to an elective. Change HLSA 740 (Strategic Planning and Marketing) from 3 credits to 2 credits. The total number of credits remains the same. B. Rationale The faculty of the Department of Health Services Administration have determined that masters students need more extensive experience in research methods in order to be most effective in their capstone and practicum experiences and in the job market. We are adding a research methods course (HLSA 775) as a requirement to meet this need. The field of health services is rapidly changing in this era of health care reform. A new course, HLSA 709 (Current Topics in Health Services), is a response to this changing environment, allowing for new and state -of theart content to be introduced to students as the research, practice and policy changes emerge.
