RDM+ Remote Desktop for Android Getting Started Guide RDM+ (Remote Desktop for Mobiles) is a remote control tool that offers you the ability to connect to your desktop or laptop computer from Android device and interact with it remotely. With RDM+ you can not only view the remote desktop on your mobile device but also operate your computer. RDM+ software consists of two components: the desktop part and the mobile application. 1. The desktop part (RDM+ Desktop) should be installed on the remote computer 2. The mobile device application (RDM+ for Android) should be installed on your Android OS device 1. Computer list After RDM+ is launched, you will see your computer list. All the computers you are going to control remotely will be stored and displayed here. At first start, computer list contains demo computer only. You can connect to it and make sure that the mobile application works on your mobile device. You will also see a simple demonstration of the application abilities. Tap Menu button and choose Add computer to add a new computer to the computer list. In the new computer dialog you should enter the computer number which you have received upon RDM+ Desktop registration in RDM+. You may enter the computer number with or without dashes. Then you will need to fill in the details of your account (account name and password) which you have created in RDM+ Desktop. These three fields are mandatory. Note: The account name is not case sensitive, but the password is case sensitive! You may store the password or you can check Ask password when connecting box and enter the password each time you will connect to your remote computer. Computer name will help you to locate the needed computer in your computer list. If the name field remains empty, only the computer number will be displayed.
Please enable Autoconnect option if you would like to connect to a computer right after RDM+ start. If you tap on a computer name in your computer list, you will see menu with multiple options: Desktop select this option to view your remote desktop and to control your computer;
File manager select this option to exchange files between your mobile device and your computer; System manager select this option to control windows, processes and services running, to send console commands or to check system and hardware information; Reboot / Shut down select this option if you would like to reboot your remote computer or shut it down completely; Edit allows to edit your account name, password, computer name and number; Delete deletes your computer from the list permanently; Connection info displays info on your connection. 2. Remote desktop control To connect to a remote computer, simply tap on the computer name in your computer list. If connection is successful, remote desktop will be shown. Mouse control modes There are two mouse control modes in RDM+ Android application. You can change the mouse control mode in application Settings. Direct manipulation mode This mode works the same way as on the computer. You point the position of a mouse cursor when you touch the screen. A single tap is a left mouse click and double tap is a double click on a remote computer. Alternative mode (when the direct manipulation is turned off) When direct manipulation mode is disabled, you should drag the desktop so that the object will be under the mouse cursor. Please position mouse cursor over an object (e.g. icon or window). After you point the object with the mouse you can tap or double tap at any spot of the screen to send click or double click correspondingly. In this mode you can also invert mouse, if you would like mouse movement to be reversed. No matter which desktop control mode you prefer, to send right click and to drag and drop you should use a four-button menu that is opened after you tap and hold. To close the menu, tap the screen. The arrow shows the mouse position on the remote computer.
Hint: To drag an object tap Drag-n-Drop button (from the four-button menu) and then tap where you want to drop it. Please notice where the mouse cursor is located. It should be placed on the object which you want to drag and drop. Control panel You can open or hide the panel any time, simply tap the Menu button. Pan & Zoom Tap this button to zoom in or zoom out your desktop image. You can also access quickly the corners of the desktop by tapping appropriate corner buttons on your Android device. Hotkeys Tapping this button opens a list of hotkeys specific to remote computer OS. You can send keys separately or send key combinations. You can edit the hotkey list in Settings/Hotkey Configuration. Hint: To send a modifier key like Win or Cmd separately tap and hold the key for a while. Show/Hide keyboard - You can enter the text that will be transferred to remote computer just like you enter it from a keyboard. Scrolling the windows You can scroll the window that is in focus on the remote computer by swiping with two
fingers up and down or left and right. If you want to scroll down the document quickly, zoom out first and then scroll down. Zoom in and out with pinch gesture Note: Pinch might not work if your device has a resistive touchscreen. 3. File Manager Please select the computer from your computer list and tap "File manager". When the connection is established, you will see the list of disks, folders and files available both on your remote computer and on your device. Tap and hold on the folder or the file to view the list of available options. With file manager you may copy and paste files and folders, rename or delete them. You may also create new folders. To select multiple files or folders please use "Mark/Unmark" option.
4. System manager Please select the computer from your computer list and tap "System manager". When the connection is established, you will be able to select one of the following options: Console commands You may send any command to your remote computer. Please enter the command text into the field and tap "Run".
Windows You may view and control the list of windows currently opened on your remote computer. Please tap on the name of the window to view detailed information, close window, close application or kill process. Processes Here you may view and control the list of currently running processes. Please tap on the process name to view detailed information, close application or kill process. System info Here you may check detailed system information such as, for example, host name, local time, startup, user currently logged in, physical memory, commit charge, CPU usage, resources usage. Hardware info Here you may check hardware information such as base board, CPU, memory, disk drive, video controller, sound device, network adapter.
5. Settings Mouse control mode There are two mouse control modes in RDM+ Android application. Direct mouse manipulation mode works just like you control your computer with a mouse. Tap and double tap stand for left click and double click on the remote computer. If you turn direct mouse
manipulation mode off, alternative mode will be used. Direct manipulation mode is turned off by default. In alternative mode you can invert mouse. Please read more about the mouse control modes in the previous section. Image quality You can define the image quality from the remote desktop. High image quality may decrease the remote desktop rendering. If you select Quick, you ll get faster connection speed with lower image quality. Default the balance between connection speed and image quality is optimal. Hotkey configuration You can manage the list of hotkeys easily by adding new hotkeys, deleting the ones you don't use and sorting the hotkey list. Tap on an empty cell. In the form you should enter a short name of a new hotkey and a command. To fill out the Command field press an arrow button to see the list of control keys. You may also use keyboard. It may be useful to group hotkeys with the same font and/or background color. To change the font and/or background color of a hotkey select Font and Background color.
Master Password Master Password locks RDM+ and encrypts your computer list. If this option is enabled and the Master Password is set, RDM+ will not start without the Master Password.
Language The following languages can be selected: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish. Wipe user data This operation clears all user data in RDM+ application (computer list, all account names and passwords, hotkeys configuration). Note: You won t be able to restore this information after resetting. 4.
