June 26, 2012 Calista H. Smith, Consultant Ohio Board of Regents 30 East Broad Street, 36 th Floor Columbus, OH 43215 Dear Calista: Hocking College wishes to express its full support to the Kresge and Lumina Foundations for the University System of Ohio s Credit When It s Due proposal. This is a fortuitous opportunity to create new opportunities for Ohioans to earn academic credentials. Current demographic projections suggest that by 2025, there will be 90,000 fewer adults with postsecondary credentials in Ohio s workforce, and the efforts outlined in this initiative could curtail or even reverse this trend. Ohio s established system of public college and universities has established a solid foundation of policies and procedures upon which to execute this project. This initiative will benefit from several sources of support for credit transfer, recognition and acceptance, including the Ohio Articulation and Transfer Policy, Transfer Assurance Guides, and Ohio Transfer Module. Hundreds of students from our own institution take advantage of these supports every year when seeking transfer opportunities; however, many leave us before attaining their associate degrees. The Credit When It s Due project will begin to address this problem, and will create incentives for those same students to reach their baccalaureate aspirations as well. Hocking College stands ready to support this project in every way possible, including participation in planning meetings, evaluation efforts, and adjustments to current institutional policies and procedures that may impede reverse transfer opportunities. The Credit When It s Due initiative is aligned with local, state and federal efforts at advancing the nation s Completion Agenda, and Hocking College stands ready to assist in any way it can. Sincerely, Ron Erickson, Ph.D. President
