Where is Key for Schools taken?

Format of Key for Schools The test tests all four skills in three separate papers Paper 1 Reading and Writing Nine parts - 1 hour 10 minutes Paper 2 Listening Five parts approx 30 minutes Paper 3 Speaking Two parts 8-10 minutes

Reading and Writing 1 hour 10 minutes, 50% of total mark Reading based on signs, short messages, brochures, newspapers and magazines understand the main message choose the best word to fill a gap match functional statements or questions with responses Writing write a short message or note based on three required pieces of information

Listening 25 30 minutes, 25% of total mark listening to identify or write down key information (times, prices, days of the week, places etc) understanding announcements spelling of names or places as dictated on the recording

Listening - Part 3 multiple choice

Speaking 8 10 minutes, 25% of total mark two tasks taken with one other candidate familiar situations, giving personal and non-personal information, asking for information basic level

Speaking Part 1 Part 2 Language of meeting people for the first time. Giving information of a factual, personal kind. 5 6 minutes Factual information of a non-personal kind related to daily life. 3 4 minutes

Assessing Speaking There are two examiners for each test the assessor focuses on detailed assessment criteria the interlocutor manages the test and focuses on overall effectiveness in dealing with the tasks
