THE SMILE THAT CAN TRANSFORM YOUR VISION
THE SMILE THAT CAN TRANSFORM YOUR VISION AND YOUR LIFE What is SMILELASER? The technology used to perform laser eye surgery has remained the same for almost a decade. It is a procedure that provides outstanding visual results for surgeons and patients alike. But now, there is another option SMILELASER. SMILELASER is a one-step, one laser minimally invasive procedure using photo separation of tissue. Highly focused laser light is used to create a precise lens-shaped disc of tissue within the cornea, that is removed through a tiny keyhole incision. Once this is done, the cornea is reshaped and vision is corrected. The laser part of SMILELASER takes less than 25 seconds. Proven, safe and effective SMILELASER uses femtosecond laser technology, which has been proven in the field of vision correction a million times over. Femtosecond lasers have an extremely high degree of precision. The laser produces pulses of light that are of an extremely short duration a femtosecond. This technology has been used to create the flap as the first stage of LASIK laser eye surgery for many years. So while SMILELASER is a new technique, we are very confident that the technology is proven, safe and effective. Surgeons around the world have embraced SMILELASER. Not only does SMILELASER produce excellent visual results, the keyhole technique means there is minimal interference with corneal nerves, so recovery is rapid. Longer term, this also helps to avoid dry eye problems and preserve the strength of the cornea.
LESS INVASIVE KEYHOLE PROCEDURE How does SMILELASER work? Step 1 - Access is created in a single step SMILELASER offers patients the reassurance of a laser eye surgery procedure that has been proven both safe and comfortable. For surgeons, the use of this high-precision femtosecond technology leads to outstanding predictability of results. The cornea consists of five layers. In order to correct vision, a surgeon must reshape the layer of the cornea called the stroma, which sits underneath the outer layer (epithelium). With SMILELASER, a surgeon can use keyhole access to the stroma, avoiding significant disruption to the epithelium. The laser applies a series of little bubbles in a circular pattern, allowing the epithelial and stromal layer of the cornea to separate. At the same time, the laser also targets a deeper layer of the stroma, creating a removable piece of tissue. Step 2 - A small, lenticular shaped portion of the cornea is removed Step 3 - Changing the shape of the cornea corrects vision Finally, the laser allows for keyhole access, so the surgeon can gently remove the targeted portion. That s it in one step, the cornea has been reshaped to provide optimal visual results.
THE REASSURANCE OF PROVEN RESULTS ACROSS THE GLOBE Who s right for SMILELASER? SMILELASER has been proven to be a safe and predictable laser eye surgery procedure. The procedure is suitable for people who suffer from short-sightedness (myopia) and/or astigmatism. They will need to be over the age of 20, have had a stable prescription for over 12 months and have good eye health. SMILELASER is particularly beneficial for people with higher degrees of short-sightedness (myopia) who may have previously been told they are unsuitable for laser surgery. There is also good news for people with corneas that are thinner than usual. SMILELASER may now be a viable option for them. Thanks to advances in femtosecond technology more people are able to have laser vision correction. Of course, only when a person has undergone a thorough examination can a surgeon know whether they qualify for SMILELASER. SMILELASER FAQs Q If SMILELASER is the next evolution in laser eye surgery, why isn t everyone offering it? A Vision Eye Institute Bondi Junction, Chatswood, and Hurstville surgeons are leaders in the field of laser vision correction. They have made a commitment to implement this technology. Q Why is it called SMILELASER? A The laser makes a small incision that allows the surgeon to remove a lenticular (disc shaped) piece of cornea thus, SMall Incision LEnticular LASER. Q What will I feel? A It is designed to put minimal pressure on the eye, making it a comfortable procedure. Q Are there possible complications? A The rate of possible post-operative issues is extremely low. Your surgeon will discuss all the possible risks with you beforehand. Q How quickly can I get back to my day-to-day routine?
