5 The steps of your ReLEx smile procedure with the VisuMax laser Cornea 2 mm opening VisuMax laser Lenticule 1. Preparation with the VisuMax laser The VisuMax Femtosecond laser creates a thin 3-D corneal lenticule, the volume and shape of which corresponds to the degree of the refractive error to be corrected. An anatomically shaped contact glass avoids unnecessary compression of the cornea and improves comfort. The cornea is opened with a keyhole incision 2 mm long. Cornea Removal of the lenticule 2. The extraction of the cornea lenticule The eye surgeon removes the lenticule through the keyhole incision. Since the folding back of the corneal flap is no longer required, the upper layers of the cornea remains almost intact during the procedure. The minimally invasive extraction of the cornea lenticule changes the shape of the cornea so that the refractive error of the eye is corrected.
