1 LASIK Enhancement Commitment ClearView Eye Clinic wants you to always See A Better Way! That s why we offer a Lifetime Lasik Enhancement Commitment Plan. Should your vision change over time, and it is determined that you may benefit from a touch up or enhancement to your Laser Vision Correction, one will be provided at no additional charge to those patients that continue to receive an Annual Eye Exam from ClearView Eye Clinic or one of their Network Doctors to ensure the health of your eyes. Annual Exams are not included in post-surgical care.
2 Y ou now have the option for a more precise and safer way to create your LASIK flap. It is called the Intralase method using the precision of the femtosecond laser and it is only available here at ClearView Eye Clinic. The Intralase laser makes your flap and the Custom laser performs your corrective treatment. With Intralase you get 100% laser from start to finish. While less expensive handheld microkeratomes are still used to cut corneal flaps in standard LASIK, the IntraLase laser has become the technology of choice among the nation s preeminent surgeons. Why do 9 out of 10 patients choose 100% Blade-Free LASIK? Better Vision Patients achieve statistically better vision with LASIK using the IntraLase Bladeless Method. (Durrie, Binder, Schallhorn) Improved Safety Bladeless LASIK eliminates almost all the most severe, sight-threatening LASIK complications associated with the mechanical microkeratome. (Davis, Davison) Fewer Retreatments Over 1 million Intralase procedures have been successfully performed worldwide. The number of LASIK retreatments (called enhancements ) required to perfect the visual outcome is significantly lower for Intralase eyes when compared to other methods. (Manger) Highest Degree of Predictability and Precision It makes sense that the more predictable the corneal flap, the more predictable the vision result. And that s the case with the Bladeless method. Intralase preserves corneal tissue with more reproducible flap thickness (within ± 10 microns) when compared to the reported variability (up to ± 40 microns) of flaps made with handheld microkeratomes. Reduced Dry Eye Symptoms Clinical studies show that when using standard tests to diagnose dry eye following LASIK, Intralase patients demonstrated a 72% reduction in dry eye symptoms following their treatment. This often translates into clear, stable vision sooner than with other methods. (Christenbury) Thinner Flaps Patients previously excluded as unsuitable LASIK candidates because of thin corneas may now be able to have LASIK. This is because the Intralase is able to more safely create thinner flaps than ever possible with any bladed microkeratome. (Leach)
3 Prior to your LASIK Screening Appointment It is useful for our physicians to have past prescriptions available on the day of your LASIK screening appointment. If you can, please bring your contact lens box(es) and glasses with you. If you are able to discontinue wearing your soft contact lenses for 2-3 days prior to your initial screening consultation, please do so. If you do not have glasses and need to stay in your soft contacts, that s fine. You can still undergo a reliable LASIK screening. Depending on your type of soft lenses, before your final preoperative examination and your LASIK procedure you will need to stay out of your contacts for 1-3 weeks. Our doctors will tailor their recommendations based on the testing performed during your initial screening. For hard contact lens wearers please discontinue wearing your lenses for 2-3 days prior your initial screening consultation. If you do not have glasses and need to stay in your hard contacts, that s fine. You can still undergo a reliable LASIK screening. Because many years of hard lens wear can cause temporary but significant alterations in the way your corneas are shaped you will ultimately need to be out of your hard lenses for an extended period of time (3-6 weeks) before your procedure. We have methods of verifying when your corneas are completely stable and when it is safe to proceed with your LASIK. Our doctors will tailor their recommendations based on the testing performed during your initial screening. Frequently asked Questions: Does LASIK hurt? No, the procedure does not hurt. The eye is numbed with anesthetic drops, making the procedure painless. An oral sedative is offered before your procedure to help calm and relax you during the few minutes of your laser eye surgery. What should I expect on the day of my LASIK? Expect to arrive at ClearView Eye Clinic in Moscow, 30 minutes prior to your procedure. It is important to have a driver with you. Wear comfortable clothes and please no perfume, cologne, make-up or hairspray. We also recommended eating a light breakfast. Upon arrival. a technician will escort you back to review medications, ask any final questions and begin prepping you for your procedure
4 How long does the LASIK procedure last? Your entire procedure lasts minutes. You will be seen again by our doctor prior to leaving for home. After I have LASIK, how often do I need to be seen? Postoperatively, a typical patient is seen by 1-2 days following your procedure, then at 2 weeks, 2 months and finally 1 year. If a patient has special concerns or needs, more frequent visits are gladly provided at no additional cost. When can I return to work and my normal activities? Most patients can resume normal activities the day after their procedure. We ask you to avoid certain activities such as swimming, hot tubs, dusty, dirty environments or extremely strenuous exercise until your 2 week appointment. Will I still need my reading glasses after LASIK? It is unrealistic to expect that LASIK will free you from ever needing reading glasses. The dependency on reading glasses is a natural part of the aging process. However, in many cases we can reduce dependency on reading glasses through a technique called monovision. Although this is quite successful, it has some unique drawbacks. Monovision can be discussed in more detail during your screening. Is LASIK permanent? The results of LASIK seem to be stable over time. Most patients do not experience significant changes in their vision once the postoperative results have stabilized, although this does not affect the normal aging changes of the eye known as presbyopia. What is the "ideal" candidate? In general, the ideal candidate for LASIK is over 18 years of age and has healthy corneas. Candidates must not have had a significant change in their glasses or contact lens prescription in the last 12 months. People with certain medical conditions (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's or autoimmune disorders) are excluded. Women who are nursing or pregnant will need to wait at least 6 months postpartum until they are eligible for LASIK. What's the next step? Please contact me at to schedule your free screening or with any additional questions. You may also me directly. [email protected] CVeyes.com
