VA Educational Benefit Certification This is a tutorial only. INTRODUCTION This guide explains how student veterans, military servicemen/women, and dependents of veterans may request a VA Educational Benefits Certification through Bronco Direct s Student Center and submit the required documents online. Even if you do not plan to claim VA Educational Benefits, you can upload DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) or a photo copy of your Military Identification Card to qualify for Priority Registration (does not apply to dependents of veterans) Before you Begin: - Prepare your documents as PDF or JPEG Files. If a document has multiple pages, include all pages in one PDF File. A resolution of 200 dpi is generally fine unless the print is faint and hard to read. Documents must be legible and may not exceed 5 MB. - Read this guide first. - Save your changes to each module page before clicking Next or Continue If you have already submitted paper documents to the VA Certifying Official or to the Veteran Resource Center, you do not need to upload duplicates. For example, 2015-2016 Education Plans. Step 1 1) Go to your MY CPP page (https://my.cpp.edu/) 2) Log in with your Bronco username and password 3) Click on Student Center
Step 2 From Student Center: 1) Click on Student Self Services 2) Click on Additional Services 3) Click on VA Benefit Certification
STEP 3 The VA Educational Benefit Certification introduction window will open. The first section lists the forms you may need to upload. The second section (shaded in blue), shows the online module steps you will be asked to complete. Select Continue
Step 4 The Term Selection page displays. 1) From the drop-down menu, select the term for which you want to certify your VA Benefits. (Please ignore the initial code numbers). 2) Select Continue to move forward
STEP 5 The Benefits Information page displays. Use the drop down menus and checkboxes to indicate: - Your Veterans Service Branch o For Dependents & Spouses, indicate the veteran s branch of service - The Type of VA Educational Benefits you have been awarded o For Cal Vet Fee Waivers, Tuition Assistance, & Priority Registration only: click on NOT Using Benefits - Who will receive the benefits - Whether you are on active duty - Whether you are receiving Scholarships, Cal Vet Fee Waiver, Tuition Assistance, or Financial Aid (e.g. Pell Grant, Cal Grant, or State University Grant) Click Save to record your answers. Then click Next.
STEP 6 A pop-up window confirms that your benefits information has been saved. 1) Click OK to close the window 2) Select Next on the Benefits Information page to continue
STEP 7 The Form Attachments page displays. Here you can upload new documents, including DD Form 214, a photocopy of your Military Identification Card, your Certificate of Eligibility letter for VA Educational Benefits (Ch. 33, 30, 1607, etc.), and Cal Vet Fee Waiver letters. You can also view documents you ve already uploaded along with the date and time stamp. Be sure to: Select Next. - Upload PDF or JPEG Files only. - Scan all pages of a single, multi-page document into one PDF File. - Use the appropriate Attach link shown below. (Please contact us if you upload a file using the wrong link)
STEP 8 The Enrollment Certification page displays your class schedule for the term you selected. The Veterans Affairs Administration requires Cal Poly Pomona to verify progress toward your degree. If your schedule changes, notify the VA Certifying Official immediately. Select the Certify button to request VA Educational Benefits for the classes in your schedule.
STEP 9 A pop-up window confirms that your request for benefits for the term and class schedule have been submitted. (in the grayed-out background, the Acknowledgements page displays) Click OK to continue.
STEP 10 A second pop-up window reminds you that your acknowledgement is needed. Click OK to close the window and complete the Acknowledgements page.
STEP 11 Review the entire Acknowledgements page. The first section outlines your responsibilities to report all class schedule changes, claim benefits only for courses that count toward your degree objective, maintain the number of units for which you have requested benefits, and maintain satisfactory academic progress. You also acknowledge the consequences of not abiding by these requirements. The second section, Read and Check, lists conditions under which VA Educational Benefits can be certified, explains some rules governing benefits, and asks you to acknowledge these conditions and rules. By checking the box, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to the stated conditions and that the information you have provided throughout the VA Benefit Certification module is true and correct To accept the agreement and complete your request for VA Educational Benefits Certification, check the box and then click Save and Submit. After you click Save and Submit, you will not be able to modify your VA Benefit Certification. Any changes made to your class schedule needs to be e-mailed to the VA Certifying Official immediately at kim@cpp.edu
