January 2014 NETWORK INTELIGENE DEVICE (NID) FOR THE MARITIME INDUSTRY IN THIS ISSUE Giving our clients the freedom to focus on their business The Maritime satellite communication market is clearly in a growth phase. As we all know, there s rising demand for bandwidth, and high throughput satellites thus this fact will certainly accelerate the need for more intelligent solutions to handle this overwhelming demand. The key to achieving this, is focusing on our clients management of their on-board ICT infrastructure through a Network Intelligence Device (NID). That s because the vessel ICT infrastructure touches every aspect of shipping business. It s where key events are related and important tasks are associated that impact operation, safety and voyage results. As our industry matures, we need the NID to function at a higher level. The NID should drive productivity inside the Office HUB (O- HUB). It must be designed with extensive flexibility so that each authorized ICT person who uses the NID can customize it according to his individual needs. And it should also automate core O-HUB operations, such as troubleshooting. Outside the O-HUB, the NID should be constantly available on any mobile device. Workflow customization, automation and mobile access enable superior customer experience and lower costs and risks. The NID is the window into the vessel s network for our customers. It is the heart of the Intelligent Vessel Maritime Solution Suite being integrated with all the advanced solutions such as SeeMBox-V Remote Performance Monitoring, Maritime Telemedicine (MTS) and fundamental component of the Furuno Navigation Monitoring Solution. Easy Configuration in 9 Steps A step-by-step Setup Procedure ensures swift and flawless configuration in only 9 steps. Configuration in less than 15min With the comprehensive pre-configuration form and the new Setup Wizard the preparation of a SmartBox-V for immediate deployment is extremely simple and swift. Setup Wizard The new advanced Setup Wizard of SmartBox-V allows the configuration of a system to be deployed onboard a vessel through a comprehensive sequence of welldefined steps. This enables faster configuration of the NID when at the same time the configuration is saved in a file where it may be recalled for further modifications or reloaded to a new device. The latter is quite useful when an Engineer needs to prepare/configure multiple systems for the same fleet of vessels. The wizard assists the user through the configuration and definition of basic and advanced settings in 9 steps from initiation to configuration posting. The steps are: Define the Host details (where the SmartBox-V terminates its traffic) Define primary WAN interface (main satellite or wireless media) Define secondary (failover backup) WAN interface Define rules for vessel corporate LAN details Define rules for vessel entertainment LAN (E-LAN) details Define additional WAN and/or LAN interfaces Define Remote Management details Define physical SmartBox-V Hub access Complete setup, save, apply configuration. 96,4% Of the deployed SmartBox-V systems, have an average uptime of more than 6.000 hours of uninterrupted operation.
