Temperature Humidity LAN Power 6V-14V DC Temperature Humidity LAN Power 6V-14V DC www.sensormetrix.co.uk Environmental Websensor Ethernet Based Remote Monitoring Systems For: server rooms, warehouses, factories, museums, galleries, offices, holiday homes Remote monitoring of server rooms, warehouses and other environments that house equipment essential to any business s well-being, is a crucial activity that has to be taken seriously by companies. Losing a server for even a day when a company s business activity relies so much on communication nowadays can be catastrophic. Whether it is temperature, humidity, CO2, smoke, gas or any other parameter that needs to be measured, a warning system through email and/or SMS can save a company thousands in the long run. What we mean by a remote monitoring system is the ability to measure parameter(s) and send alarm(s) to the appropriate personnel to take corrective action. This alarm is primarily in email form and the monitoring does not require human intervention after the initial set up. The monitoring system connects to a company s Local Area Network, is configured on a web browser and is left to monitor, log and send alarms. Basic software is free but more sophisticated monitoring and logging software is also available. The most common parameter that is measured is temperature; however humidity, flood, door contact, smoke and many other parameters can be measured depending on their level of importance. Summary Ethernet based monitoring systems can measure almost any sensor and send email or SMS alerts to the user. Measured values can be saved in table or graphical formats. This allows the user to keep data history for further analysis or for audit purposes. Fridge and Freezer Monitoring (Medicine and Food Storage) For: Medicines, drugs, food, perishable goods, cold rooms, goods transportation Monitoring and recording of temperature values of Industrial and commercial Fridges and Freezers, especially for Medicines and Food storage is now a requirement, thanks to legislation and safety directives. Interestingly many of these directives are not concerned with recording of the actual temperature values but the minimum and maximum levels. These include directives and guidance in the Duthie report from Royal Pharmaceutical Society for medicine storage and Food Standards Agency for storage of food. Moreover, it is a requirement that all the temperature monitoring and logging systems are calibrated to EU standard, so that the accuracy of the readings can be verified independently of the equipment supplier. Data-loggers also need to be battery operated, with a long battery life and battery low indicator, to ensure that the user has sufficient warning to replace the battery. Summary Battery operated with long battery life and battery low warning Calibrated temperature sensors Recording and presentation of maximum and minimum levels Ability to download stored data for further analysis and inspection LAN and WAN monitoring This typical system can be used over Local Area Network or very remotely over a Wide Area Network Ethernet Dual Channel Temperature Data-logger 1 2 3 4 S0121 USB Humidity and Temperature Data-logger Quad Channel Temperature Data-logger 1 2 3 4 LOG ALARM R3120 S0141 Our family of battery operated, calibrated data-loggers have an unrivalled number of combinations to suit any situation. 1 2 3 4 RECORD ALARM DATA LOGGER T-PRINT Goods Transportation (Environmental Conditions) For: Transport of goods, medicines, food, animals Monitoring the environmental condition of goods during transportation, as proof to the customer that their conditions have been met has now become a requirement in many goods delivery situations. This is mainly due to legislation, especially where food is concerned. Using a Sensormetrix data-logger is a great way of ensuring that no environmental damage has been done to the cargo in transit and proving it. The requirements for monitoring goods during transportation are varied. Below is a list of typical scenarios that are easily used in goods transportation to prove the provenance of correct transit of goods. Summary Solutions range from low cost but effective USB data-loggers to sophisticated loggers that can display the temperature in the driver cabin and with printer for proof of conditions during transportation. Email and SMS alerts can be sent from the vehicle to headquarters in the event of environmental conditions going outside specified range when using the GSM based data-loggers. 1. Low cost USB data-loggers: These are battery operated Temperature and/or Humidity USB loggers that connect easily to a PC via USB socket. USB data-loggers are configured simply, using a PC and are packed with the goods during transportation. The collected data can be downloaded on to a PC on delivery but max. and min. values are shown on the logger if it has an LCD display. Low cost, the USB loggers generally come without calibration but are low cost and very easy and convenient to use. 3. Loggers with on-board printer: Very similar to the calibrated data-loggers but include on-board printer. Upon delivery of goods the driver can print a log of the values measured in transit. The Loggers with printer are normally not battery operated and use the vehicle battery for power, via the cigarette lighter socket or permanently wired if preferred. 2. Calibrated Loggers: These record Temperature and/ or Humidity and are battery operated with long battery life. More importantly these products are fully calibrated, which is a requirement for food and medicine storage and transportation specially. Some versions of these parts come with an LCD display and use an external sensor. These products are rather useful, as they can be placed in the driver s cabin with the sensor placed with the goods. The driver can then keep an eye on the temperature and humidity, as well as record them. Like the USB dataloggers, these products are simply connected to a PC for set up and download of recorded data. 4. GSM based loggers: GSM based loggers monitor the goods during delivery and if the temperature and/or humidity go outside of safe limits will send email, SMS and phone call alerts to previously set phone numbers and email addresses. The stored data can be downloaded with an email request and current values can be viewed using text. Mobile/GSM Remote Monitoring For: Server rooms, warehouses, outstations and any location where Ethernet is not available Many companies with remote sites and outbuildings require monitoring of their equipment on a regular basis, to ensure that they are in perfect working condition. This monitoring could be in the form of checking temperature, humidity, pressure and other parameters, or could be in the form of smoke detection, gas detection, door open/close etc. The following products use the GSM/Mobile network for remote monitoring and do not require the internet to relay alerts and measured history of data. This makes them a unique remote monitoring system solution, as customers will continue to get alerts even when their network is down. Summary There are two main reasons to use GSM based remote monitoring systems: 1. The user requires a monitoring system that is independent of the Local Area Network 2. The remote location or equipment that need monitoring has no access to Ethernet. GSM based monitoring systems are ideal for both the above situations. The units with internal battery are especially useful, as alerts will also be sent if mains power is lost. Scenarios for Mobile Network only Monitors 1. Most remote sites do not have a broadband/internet connection or a Local Area Network. This is where remote monitoring equipment using the GSM/mobile network is unbeatable. 2. There are also situations where companies prefer a monitoring solution that is independent of their Local Area Network, to ensure that they will still receive alerts regardless of their server /network condition. Energy Meter Monitoring For: Monitoring of utility meters, including email alerts in the event of unusual energy usage, billing and more. Monitoring the consumption of Electricity, Water, Gas and Heat is an important aspect of cost saving and environmental obligation for many companies. This can only be done if accurate, reliable and complete data is made available to decision makers. There are many ways that energy consumption data from meters can be transferred for analysis but the most reliable method is through Local Area Network. This allows remote downloading of data in a very efficient manner. Sensormetrix remote power monitoring solutions enable M-Bus* meters and Pulse meters to be connected to Ethernet/LAN with ease and transfer energy consumption information to a server remotely. The included Sensormetrix software collects this information for manipulation of data as required. In addition graphical and spread-sheet representation of the data is straightforward with this software package. Email alerts, in the event of irregular usage or reaching pre-determined maximum values are standard for the Sensormetrix solutions. Also, our remote monitoring systems can be connected to many meters at a time (up to 25), making them ideal for use in buildings with many occupants, especially for billing purposes. Summary Energy usage can be monitored by either using M-Bus interface or Pulse counting methods. Email alerts are generated and sent to the user as a warning regarding energy usage. Sensormetrix offer two software packages that will automatically record measured data to provide a historical record as required by many regulations, providing an easy method of demonstrating compliance. PDMS The PDMS software package collects data obtained from the devices that it monitors and stores it automatically in a database, from which data can be viewed graphically and/or exported to Microsoft Excel as a report containing graphs. Data is collected at a user programmable time interval from any unit that PDMS can reach using an IP connection. Units on the local network are automatically detected; those on external networks can be explicitly added. For data-loggers on external networks, PDMS has a unique way of collecting data via email as a neat solution for avoiding firewall issues. PDMS is not limited in the number of units or sensors for which it can log and record data. Viewing data graphically may be done directly from the PDMS package. Individual sensors can be selected for graphing, and the time interval of the window into the data is completely programmable. Any or all devices and sensors being monitored can be selected to be included in a.xls file format export to Excel, where all logged values are displayed together with a graphical view of the data. Alarm conditions may be included in the reports. Advanced options allow current values recorded by PDMS to be viewed on a web interface, allowing viewing of the data from many different computers, including those off site. XLS reports may also be automatically generated and emailed. CDB The CDB software package listens for SOAP messages containing data to be logged to be received, and stores the data into an SQL database as it is received. This received data can be both measurements and alarm condition information. The advantage of sending data via SOAP is that remote locations will not need special configuration to pass the SOAP messages through the firewall. Only the firewall at the server will need to be configured, making logging of multiple sites very simple to set up. As data is expected to be received periodically, the user may be warned if data appears to be stale due to a network connection problem. The server is able to send out emails (and optionally SMS text messages) when alarm events occur, either within the remote units being monitored or from the application itself. Data logged into the database may be viewed using a database viewer program, DBV. Measurements over specific time periods can be displayed both as a table of data and as graphs. The start and end points in time are configurable down to the second, as are the units and sensors to be displayed. Statistical information on the data windowed can be displayed. The ability to show the maximum and minimum values is especially useful to demonstrate compliance to regulations in the food and medical industries. Data may be exported as pdf reports or as a CSV file for import into other programs such as excel. When alerts occur, as well as sending email or text messages, audio and visual alerts can be created on the computer which is being used to view data. It is possible for a user to cancel these alarms, and the cancellation event may be logged (including details of the user who cancelled the alarm). Contact us on: +44 (0)118 976 9023 19
