Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program Philosophy The faculty believes in the inherent worth and dignity of each individual. Health and illness are viewed as a continuum with individuals responsible for choices affecting their well being. An understanding of growth and development throughout the life cycle is fundamental to the adaptation of nursing care to meet individual needs. Utilizing the nursing process, students will learn to assist others in the performance of activities contributing to their health or recovery. Nursing studies and experiences are directed toward the care of the whole person including physical and psychosocial needs with the context of a changing society. Conceptual Framework The curriculum is based on the body systems approach. Anatomy, physiology, nutrition, pediatrics, pharmacology, growth, and development are integrated throughout. The emphasis is on total patient care and progresses from simple to complex utilizing the nursing process. Program Description The Vocational Nursing Program meets all academic and clinical requirements as set by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician licensure requirements in California. The student will learn basic concepts of pharmacology, nutrition, psychology, anatomy, physiology, medical-surgical nursing, care of mother and her newborn, normal growth and development, and concepts of leadership for health care in the classroom and clinical settings. The program includes the fundamentals of medical terminology, sequential skill building in basic arithmetic skills, math for medications, and medical abbreviations are presented. Integrated throughout the program are Academic and CTE standards, which include safety, communication, technology, ethics, career planning, and other employability skills. The Vocational Nurse Program addresses STEM skills necessary for student success in medical disciplines and careers. Clinical worksite learning is a required component of the program. Accreditation The Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program is a public agency of the California Department of Education, established by a Joint Powers Agreement among the Colton Joint Unified, Redlands Unified and Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School Districts since 1971. Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program provides quality, hands-on career training programs in highdemand career fields to assist high school students and adults in acquiring marketable job skills. The Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council on Occupational Education (COE). In addition, the Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program Vocational Nursing Program is approved by the California Board of Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Technicians. Physical Requirements The essential functions of the Vocational Nurse occupation require many physical tasks which include, but are not limited to, lifting, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods of time. Applicants must be able to fully participate in program activities for the entire 16 month period. Consider all aspects of the physical requirements before the start of the program. Program Length The Vocational Nursing Program is 1,720 hours. The 16 month experience is divided between, 154 hours of a foundation course, 600 hours of classroom theory and 966 hours of clinical experience. The Vocational Nursing Program is a full-time program during daytime hours with possible afternoon/evening clinical hours. Clinical hours vary depending on the availability of clinical sites. Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program Participant Selection Process Selection into the Vocational Nursing Program is a competitive process. All applicants will be scored using the Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program s Vocational Nurse scoring rubric. The highest scoring students will advance to an interview process and final selections will be made. It is important all applicants submit completed applications. If an application is submitted incomplete the candidate will not be considered for the program. Adult Requirements 18 years of age and possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent Official sealed high school transcript or equivalent required. (Foreign transcripts must be translated for U.S. equivalency by an official U.S. service to be granted credit prior to submitting a completed application. TEAS V completion or official TEAS V transcript Current, valid government issued photo ID and Social Security card Completed Vocational Nurse online application and criminal background form Completed Vocational Nurse application checklist Must meet at least one out of three criteria below: Previous completion of a medical program such as Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, Nurse Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, or other related/similar medical training which included a clinical component. (Official sealed transcript must be submitted to the Student Services Office) and/or Work experience (within the past five years) in a health related position. (Documentation of employment on company letterhead is required verifying employment experience including: title, duties, and dates of employment (family-related care excluded) to the Student Services Office) and/or Completed previous college level courses in science or nursing skill programs with a grade of C+ or better (Official sealed transcript(s) must be submitted to the Student Services Office) Enrollment Procedures: 1. Submit Vocational Nurse application and criminal background form. Copies are available at the CRY-ROP Student Services offices or online at www.cryrop.org under the Career Seekers tab. Online forms can be typed in and printed for submission. 2. Submit TEAS V official transcripts, or print test results at the Colton Redlands Yucaipa ROP Student Services Office in the presence of an employee. 3. Submit all required educational official sealed transcript(s) and employment verification documentation at the Student Service Office. 4. Present current government issued photo ID and Social Security card to Student Services staff. 5. If you wish to receive federal financial aid, please complete your 2015-2016 FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov prior to submitting your application. Print your confirmation page and submit it with your packet. 6. Complete the check-list and submit to Student Service Office once all items have been submitted and completed. Applications are scored on a point system. In order to receive points, applicants must submit transcripts of all education coursework completed and verification of recent work experience in the health field. All items to be considered for points must be submitted to the Student Services Office. Applicants who complete all requirements and submit all required documentation will be placed in our first application pool. The first application pool deadline date will be Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Applicants submitting applications and documentation after this date will be placed in our second pool to be reviewed and scored beginning Thursday, December 17, 2015. The absolute and final deadline for all applicants is Wednesday, December 16, 2015 before 7:30 pm. Packets must be submitted to the Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program s Student Services Office in person only. Upon submitting documentation to the Student Services Office, applicants will need to present their current government issued photo ID and Social Security card to a staff member for photocopying and placing in applicant s record. All documentation submitted in the application packet will not be returned to applicants. All documents submitted become part of the confidential records retained at the Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program. Incomplete or late documentation and online application submissions will not be considered. Applicants will be contacted for interviews and notified of results between January 4, 2016 and February 29, 2016 by mail and by phone. Vocational Nurse Financial Aid Financial aid available for those who qualify. Refer to Student Handbook at www.cryrop.org. Students can apply for FAFSA or seek assistance from an outside community referral agency. See staff in Student Services for more information. For individuals who will be paying for all or part of the program out of pocket, a payment contract must be agreed upon and signed no later than Thursday, March 25 th. COMPLETE A FAFSA ONLINE Federal Student Aid is an office of the U.S. Department of Education that manages and regulates Title IV funds of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. To be considered for various federal, state, and institutional aid, students need to complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. Step-by-step instructions are provided below. 1. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov Choose the 2015-2016 FAFSA year. NOTE: When asked for the school code, type in "041943" for CRY-ROP. 2. Complete the entire FAFSA and click Sign and Submit. 3. Print your confirmation page and submit it with your packet. If you are accepted into the program, additional steps will need to be completed with the Assistance of our Student Accounts Technician prior to the start of the program, to ensure there is a payment plan in place. For assistance with either process please contact staff in Student Services at (909) 793-3115 extension 522. Upcoming Dates Testing Sessions: On going to December 16, 2015 Interview Dates: January 8-February 29, 2016 Open House: Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 4:00-7:00 pm Program begins: March 28, 2016 Orientation Meetings: See page 8 After acceptance into the program you must submit proof of: Current CPR card (Basic Life Saver [BLS] for Health Care Providers) Must be submitted to instructor within end of first week of the start of the program. CRY-ROP will be hosting CPR (BLS) for Health Care Providers, on Friday, November 6 th and Saturday, December 5 th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in B4. The cost for the class is $52. To reserve your spot, please sign up and pay in Student Services Office. Background Check (Conducted in class, once program begins) (Once admitted into the program, fingerprint clearance is required. Fees are included in program cost. Felony convictions may disqualify an applicant. For questions regarding criminal convictions please refer to www.bvnpt.ca.gov/enforcement_faq.shtml#a1) Applicants are responsible to be clear of all previous convictions prior to applying for the program. Refunds will not be issued for applicants who do not pass the background check completed at the beginning of the program. Students who do not pass the background check will be dropped from the program. Completed Health Screening (Physical form and history of current immunizations must be completed by your physician and is required by the end of the first week of the program. The form is available in the Student Services Office. Proof of two PPD/TB clearances or chest X-ray (In the past year and must be maintained yearly) Immunizations including TDaP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) (In past 10 years) MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine less than 10 years or positive titer results Hepatitis A (series of 2) & B (series of 3) less than 10 years or positive titer results (The first series must be completed at start of class) Yearly influenza vaccine when available Varicella vaccine less than 10 years or positive titer results All questions regarding the physical and/or immunizations should be directed to the instructors at (909) 793-3115 extension 557 05 All immunizations must be up to date and current prior to the end of the first week of the program and submitted to the instructor.

Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) Testing Dates All applicants must complete the TEAS V assessment. The TEAS V measures basic essential skills in academic content areas of reading, math, science, English, and language usage. The test is scheduled over a four and a half hour period. A scheduled 10 minute break will be allotted during the test. Calculators are not permitted. Testers will be allowed to leave once they have completed testing. Unofficial results are immediately available upon test completion. Individuals that have already completed the TEAS V within the past five years may submit an official TEAS V transcript with their application, or may print TEAS V test results in the Student Services Office in the presence of a staff member. TEAS V registration must be completed well in advance of the test date. Test takers must create a student account and register for a specific test date online at www.atitesting.com. Test fees ($75.00) must be paid online at the time of registration. All testing fees are non-refundable and not transferable. When registering, please indicate Colton Redlands Yucaipa ROP as your institution. All test takers will need a current government issued photo ID at time of test check-in, and should bring their ATI username and password. Test takers can not bring food, drinks or extra belongings into the testing room. Purses, wallets and cells phones will be secured by the test taker prior to the start of the test. It is strongly recommended that testers prepare by purchasing the TEAS V study guide and/or practice tests. Study guides are available for purchase at the Student Services Office for $52.00. Study guides and/or practice tests are also available online at www.atitesting.com, (click online store) or by calling 1-800-667-7531. Vocational Nurse Vocational Nursing Orientation Meetings Orientation meetings are informal sessions to help answer student questions in regard to the Vocational Nurse Program in addition to questions in regard to financial aid options. If you attend one of the Orientation dates below, you will received a coupon worth 10 points to be added to your application total. Attach the coupon received at the Orientation Meeting to your packet to receive credit. Student Commitment Vocational Nurse is a rigorous college level program that requires a 100% commitment of each student. All students enrolled in the Vocational Nurse Program are expected to maintain professionalism at all times and follow all policies, procedures, and the authority of the teachers. Program participation and attendance are extremely important; students must arrive on time and be fully prepared. If the student must be absent, he/she must inform the teacher. Absences may adversely affect a student s grade. All students must possess a willingness to stay and complete the program. Time Management The average student should anticipate 10-15 hours of study time and homework per week. All students are required to make time outside the set program hours to study, complete required homework, and prepare for class. Learning Community What does it mean to be part of a learning community at the Colton Redlands Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program? It means that you owe it to your classmates to be prepared, to respect their opinions, give them authentic, constructive feedback, and to learn from their experiences. Your teachers and peers may have expertise you lack.
