New inverter technology in Biomedical freezers Panasonic NEW Inverter Technology saves energy and enhances sample security With the introduction of NEW inverter technology, Panasonic is offering exceptional performance and energy efficiency in our latest Biomedical freezers. Panasonic s new Biomedical freezers with natural refrigerants and inverter compressors minimise energy consumption, reduce environmental impact and save money on running costs. Innovative inverter technology provides a reliable and exceptionally stable temperature for a wide range of storage applications. The freezers provide effective storage of life-saving vaccines and samples for diagnosis in the medical field. They can also be used for storage of enzymes for genetic research, as well as culture media, reagents and samples for testing. Panasonic s Biomedical freezers are also ideal for industrial aging and temperature tests. As a storage environment, with excellent safety and other easy-to-use features, these freezers offer unsurpassed reliability and functionality. While conventional freezers use single speed compressors which cycle on and off, Panasonic's latest Biomedical freezers contain inverter compressors that can run at different speeds to maximise cooling performance under different conditions. As the compressor is not cycling on and off as frequently the temperature uniformity of the freezer is significantly improved. Inverter compressors have the added advantage of reducing the energy consumption of the freezer which is not only better for the environment but also helps to reduce running costs. 2
Improved energy efficiency and cooling performance through inverter technology normal compressor inverter controlled compressor Compressor speed (rpm) Door open Unit starting up Before door open After door open IC+ INVERTER CONTROLLED Inverter technology energy efficiency cost efficiency In a reciprocating compressor the action of the piston inside a cylinder causes the refrigerant to be compressed. The movement of the piston creates a vacuum inside the cylinder that draws the refrigerant in. The refrigerant is then compressed before flowing out of the cylinder to begin the refrigeration cycle. Time In a conventional reciprocating compressor the piston will always be working at full speed when the compressor is on to deliver maximum cooling capacity. Normally the load in the freezer is not high enough to need the maximum cooling capacity so the piston movement is excessive and energy is wasted. An inverter compressor can operate at different speeds depending on the ambient and load conditions. At times when the freezer only needs a minimal amount of cooling due to lower ambient temperatures, such as overnight, the compressor will move at a slower speed using much less energy. The start up of a compressor is the most energy consuming part of the cycle. The ability of the inverter compressor to run at lower speeds has the advantage that the compressor will not turn off and on as often thus saving energy and reducing wear. Inverter technology sample safety The intelligent control of the inverter compressor optimizes running speed for the conditions. When the inverter compressor is running as normal it will stay on for longer than a conventional compressor but at a minimal speed. This reduces the power consumption and keeps freezer temperatures stable. When the door has been opened the compressor will run at maximum capacity to bring the temperature inside the freezer back down to set value quickly before resuming a normal cycle again. 3
