AREVA Support of Industry Workforce Development Charter member of Nuclear Energy Institute's Workforce Issues Taskforce Charter member of Center for Energy Workforce Development Co-Chair for the Virginia Energy Workforce Consortium Member of Region 2000 Educational Consortium Member of Career Pathways through Tech Prep

Education initiatives start early: AREVA Workforce Initiatives Middle School Summer Academy STEM Reading Program FIRST Robotics High School Summer Apprenticeship Program Teacher & Student Tours Co-op and Intern Engineers Region 2000 High School Nuclear Technology Programs Appomattox County High School initiated 2006 E.C. Glass & Heritage High Schools initiated 2007 Amherst County High School initiated 2008 Recently added Campbell and Bedford Counties AREVA made a $1M donation to CVCC Funded new technology center at college for AS and BS Degrees AREVA/CVCC Employee Training Program CVCC/UVA Engineering Program

Middle & High School Programs Priming the Pipeline Reading is Power a Science and Technology reading program Sponsored by AREVA and local public libraries Designed to foster interest in science and technology STEM Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Education LEGO League in cooperation with VA Tech Career Academies (through 10 th Grade) National Science Foundation Education Modules Partners in Education Piedmont Regional Governor s School Investigative research, creative thinking, problemsolving and product-oriented activities (12 week program; every Friday for 3 hours) Introducing middle school students to the nuclear industry

Middle & High School Career Programs Sponsored by CVCC Summer Career Academy Description: AREVA partners with NSF and CVCC to teach students about various fields of Nuclear Services with emphasis on Nuclear Engineering and engineering support. Students take part in presentations, demonstrations, and practical exercises in Robotics (Lego League & RANGER/ROGER), Photogrammetry, Non-Destructive Examination Services (Magnetic Particle Testing), and Job Safety Training for Radiological Areas. Objectives - During this academy, students: Learn basics of how to assemble, program, and use robots. Understand the importance of robotics in the Nuclear Service Industry. Understand what Photogrammetry is, its importance and use in Nuclear Services. Understand the importance and application of NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) Services. Understand importance of safety at AREVA and in the Nuclear Industry in general industrial and radiological safety.

High School Programs Sponsored by CVCC Summer Apprenticeship Program 8 week program for rising Juniors & Seniors Receive 4 college credits through CVCC Summer apprentices focus on Nuclear Services with a broad overview of other operations at AREVA including: Design Engineering Fuel Manufacturing Pump & Motor Service Refurbishment Facilities New Plants / Reactors Site Operations Apprentices work with and are trained and mentored by the AREVA Operations and Engineering staff. Learn NDE fundamentals Operate robotics and tooling machines Tour facilities and attend lectures Assist in checkout of systems and software Participate in engineering Design Review Boards Take a leadership role in the AREVA Summer Academy Student Compensation is funded by grants from Tech Prep Region 2000, the Department of Labor, the National Science Foundation, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission

AREVA/CVCC Nuclear Technician Employee Training Program Program provides a mix of: Traditional academic courses Highly focused technology courses Hands-on learning experience On-the-job training Technicians support field activities during power plant outage seasons in Spring and Fall (1 credit per 300 hours of work up to 6 credits) During non-outage seasons, technicians take CVCC courses & AREVA technical training Technicians receive college credit for a portion of their AREVA training (up to 12 credits) Other college-level courses are taught on a flexible, often accelerated schedule Technicians receive an Associates Degree in Nuclear Support Technologies (67 credit required) Receive steady income year-round for both work and training periods Full employment benefits All educational expenses paid

Nuclear Support Technologies Program Statistics The program began in 2002 129 employees have been enrolled in the program 59 employees have graduated from the program takes 2-1/2 to 3 years to graduate 35 are currently enrolled We hire on average 8 employees per year into the program All who graduated were reclassified into permanent employment making an higher salary wage 45 of those who have graduated are still with the company Note that this program is application oriented Does not prepare a student directly for a BS in engineering at the third year level due to the need for higher level math and science classes However, 9 are pursuing bachelors in engineering

UVA PRODUCED Engineering Pipeline Degree Available Locally Two years at Community College AS degree in Engineering Two years with UVA s School of Engineering and Applied Science (contact James Groves, UVA) Automatic acceptance into UVA program with a 3.4 GPA in Associates in Engineering program Mechanical, electrical, materials science Taught in Lynchburg E-learning AREVA compensates those it sponsors Tuition, books, & fees Hours worked as Interns

Rewarding Career Opportunity: AREVA Employees Earn While They Learn Program initiated in 2007 First graduating class in 2012 Interns mentor with Engineers Part-time work, full-time studies Flexible classes for working employees Taught at AREVA during off-season 379 students are in the program from all participating companies in the communities (grew from 94 in 2007)

Mentoring Continuing Education & Training PrimeTime Program to encourage more experienced engineers to transfer knowledge to younger engineers Formally documented goals for each mentor / mentee relationship Diversity in Experience Voyager Program to encourage the high potential young engineers to broaden their experience base across disciplines to improve problem solving skills, develop a more flexible workforce, and enhance global networking Focused Advanced Training Internal Training for Project Management, Sales & Marketing, and Line Management Leadership Center identifies and cultivates leadership skills AREVA University provides formal training in leadership, business, and culture Graduate Programs Compensates employees for Graduate program tuition in relevant disciplines

Other Workforce Development Needs Newport News joint venture with Northrop- Grumman ~$363 M investment in new manufacturing facility projected online in 2013 First new nuclear heavy component manufacturing facility in US in 30 years 500+ jobs in engineering and manufacturing High percentage Virginia content Manufacturing Craft Labor, Engineering, and Management Training & Development plans being developed New Nuclear Power Plant Construction Projects Impact for one new EPR project is 7000+ jobs in manufacturing, service, and construction Construction Craft Labor, Engineering, and Management Training & Development plans being developed

Priming the Pipeline by starting at an early age Multiple approaches for developing the technicians and engineers that we need More programs need to be in place for knowledge transfer from the more experienced to the new technicians and engineers We are still developing ideas to ensure that our current and new employees are skilled in the technologies important to our business; e.g. graduate programs The nuclear industry offers many diverse opportunities, good salaries, and rewarding work so recruitment has been good High School Graduates Bachelor Degree Graduates Masters Degree Graduates PhD Graduates In Conclusion Community Colleges / Technical Schools Courses R&D Mentoring On-site/Summer Programs Distance Learning Major Universities Technical Training Under Grad Degrees Graduate Degrees R&D Work Teaching Mentoring
