ART PRIZE CBM - Premio Biennale Carlo Bonatto Minella TURIN PRAGUE LONDON III Edition 2015/2016 ANNOUNCEMENT 12 January extended till the 20 July 2015 Theme: Space. Inside and Outside the Limits 1) Purpose The Cultural Association AREACREATIVA42, located in Casa Toesca, in the heart of the old town of Rivarolo Canavese (Turin), aims at valuing Historical Art and promoting Contemporary Art, with a particular attention to its new generations. Since 2010 AREACREATIVA42 established a biennial Prize for artists, dedicated to Carlo Bonatto Minella (1855-1878), Piedmontese artist and virtuous pupil at Albertina Academy in Turin, who died very young leaving his talented artistic career incomplete. 2) Theme Each edition of the Prize is given a different theme taking inspiration from a work of Carlo Bonatto Minella: to this end a short text is written by the artistic director suggesting a contemporary interpretation, according to the objectives of Areacreativa42. Edition 2015 of Art Prize CBM is inspired, in its theme, by one of the latest works, maybe the very last, painted by the Piedmontese artist: Religion of the departed, a canvas preserved at GAM (Gallery of Modern Art) in Turin, fascinating and mysterious, arousing meditation. The sacrificial gesture of the profile figure, ingratiating gods, is full of spirituality, placed as it is in the centre of a space at the border between finiteness and infinity, in between need of protection and consignment of one's desires. To the young Minella, space looks as full of loneliness, compared to the daily chaos and to the noisy city, it is a space at the limit between a here, where material presence is nostalgia and a there, where the ideal is silence and poetry. The artist paints a moment marked by memories, images, figures, still-lives and vegetations, sliding into a delicate harmony; all these elements give stronger energy and essence to the surrounding landscape, outside and inside the household walls. Inspired by the meaning and significance of the Carlo Bonatto Minella painting, artists who will take part in the Prize, could use painting, sculpture, photography, installations or video-art or whatever artistic language is more suitable to them, to express their creative inspiration, stopping to reflect about physical and mental space, where objects from the inside speak about affection, memories and pulsing life, while the outside extends in a landscape loaded with sought but not found values. (Antonio D Amico)
